Switching Transients in Wound Rotor Induction Motors [includes discussion]

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. Part III: Power Apparatus and Systems, 1954
This paper presents an analysis of the transients that occur when voltage is suddenly applied across the terminals of an induction motor, with and without a connected capacitor. In wound rotor motors, the transient currents are reduced by connecting resistance in the rotor circuit, but transient voltages then appear across the slip rings.

Temperature Measurement of PMSM Rotor Based on Wound-Rotor Resolver Reuse Technique

IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification
Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is widely used in industry; rotor temperature is an important parameter to determine the health of PMSM. However, the existing rotor temperature measurement methods are unreliable. To solve this problem, a robust

Wound Rotor to Induction Motor and VFD Conversion Case Study

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2011
This paper will present a method, which has been used to retrofit vintage wound rotor motors in various applications in the forest products industry. This calculation method was developed due to the end user's need to retrofit an existing application and the lack of detailed motor data.

A Speed Estimation Strategy for Wound Rotor Induction Motor

2018 IEEE Biennial Congress of Argentina (ARGENCON), 2018

The Soft Starting System for an Induction Motor with an Induction Resistance in the Wound Rotor Circuit

2019 International Multi-Conference on Industrial Engineering and Modern Technologies (FarEastCon), 2019
In the electric drive, made on the basis of an induction motor with a wound rotor (IM with WR), it is proposed to regulate the rotor current by means of a rectifier-inverter unit, while the rectifier input is connected to the rotor winding pins of the ...

Control of a Three-Phase Wound-Rotor Induction Motor Drive for Automation Applications

International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, 2019
The use of rotary assembly platforms, such as the automated box-fill system rotary table, is widespread in automation applications. One of the problems that the designers have to face is how to transfer the power to the auxiliary actuators mounted on the

Design Optimization of Wound Rotor Induction Motor Using Genetic Algorithm

International Conference on Knowledge-Based Engineering and Innovation, 2019
Wound rotor induction motors have been underestimated for specific applications and high power. Therefore, in this paper, the optimization of the design of a wound rotor induction motor using a genetic algorithm with objective function including power ...

Multi-harmonic tracking for diagnosis of rotor asymmetries in wound rotor induction motors

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
Most of the research work hitherto carried out in the induction motors fault diagnosis area has been focused on squirrel-cage motors in spite of the fact that wound-rotor motors are typically less robust, having a more delicate maintenance. Over recent years, wound-rotor machines have drawn an increasing attention in the fault diagnosis community due ...

A case study of wound rotor induction motor protection

Conference Record of 1999 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference (Cat. No.99CH36338), 2003
Wound rotor induction motors provide several advantages over squirrel cage induction motors when applied to high inertial loads. This paper describes an example of applying motor protection techniques to a wound rotor motor with a slip energy recovery drive system. Special emphasis was placed on detecting and clearing ground faults in the rotor circuit.
