Ceramic Sherd Assemblages from the Hawkins Bluff (41CS2), Snipes (41CS8), and 41CS44 Sites on the lower Sulphur River at Lake Wright Patman, Cass County, Texas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Many documented sites on the lower Sulphur River in the East Texas Pineywoods were occupied by Caddo peoples, and there are a number of such sites at Lake Wright Patman, including better known sites such as Knight’s Bluff (41CS14) and Sherwin (41CS26 ...

Diffusion Characteristics of Ru and Oxygen Vacancies in Ta2O5 for Resistive Random Access Memory Devices: A Density Functional Theory Investigation

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic analysis of ruthenium (Ru) and oxygen vacancy (OV) diffusion in Ta₂O₅‐based memristors is performed. DFT calculations demonstrate interstitial Ru in Ta₂O₅ has lower diffusion barriers and formation energies than OVs, enhancing mobility and stability.

What to Make and How to Make It: Combining Machine Learning and Statistical Learning to Design New Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Combining machine learning and probabilistic statistical learning is a powerful way to discover and design new materials. A variety of machine learning approaches can be used to identify promising candidates for target applications, and causal inference can help identify potential ways to make them a reality.

Dimorphic enantiostyly and its function for pollination by carpenter bees in a pollen‐rewarding Caribbean bloodwort

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Flowers that present their anthers and stigma in close proximity can achieve precise animal‐mediated pollen transfer, but risk self‐pollination. One evolutionary solution is reciprocal herkogamy. Reciprocity of anther and style positions among different plants (i.e., a genetic dimorphism) is common in distylous plants, but very rare in
