Different evolutionary pathways underlie the morphology of wrist bones in hominoids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND The hominoid wrist has been a focus of numerous morphological analyses that aim to better understand long-standing questions about the evolution of human and hominoid hand use.

The Case of a 28‐Year‐Old Man With Gradually Progressive Proximal Leg Weakness

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This is a case of a 28‐year‐old man who presented with a 6‐month history of gradually progressive proximal leg weakness and pain that worsened on exercise and was relieved by rest. He had no symptoms in his upper limbs. Apart from intermittent mild ptosis and diplopia, he had no other cranial nerve symptoms.

Assessing the risk of re-fracture related to the percentage of partial union in scaphoid waist fractures: a finite element study

open access: yesBone & Joint Open, 2023
Aims: There is ambiguity surrounding the degree of scaphoid union required to safely allow mobilization following scaphoid waist fracture. Premature mobilization could lead to refracture, but late mobilization may cause stiffness and delay return to ...

Loading on the Scapho-Trapezium-Trapezoid joint during gripping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The scapho-trapezium-trapezoid (STT) joint is believed to be highly vulnerable to wear and has been identified clinically as a high risk joint in arthritic patients. A theoretical model [1] of the load transfer through the wrist during gripping, suggests

Manual Matching Of Perceived Surface Orientation Is Affected By Arm Posture: Evidence Of Calibration Between Proprioception And Visual Experience In Near Space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Proprioception of hand orientation (orientation production using the hand) is compared with manual matching of visual orientation (visual surface matching using the hand) in two experiments.

Exploring Patients’ Profiles Associated With the Resolution of Acute Calcium Pyrophosphate Arthritis Treated With Colchicine and Prednisone: Post Hoc Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective was to identify factors determining acute arthritis resolution and safety with colchicine and prednisone in acute calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystal arthritis. Methods We conducted a post hoc analysis of the COLCHICORT trial, which compared colchicine and prednisone for the treatment of acute CPP crystal arthritis, using a ...

Assessment of Skin in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis Using High‐Frequency Ultrasound and Shear Wave Elastography: A Comparative Study With Histology, Molecular, and Clinical Parameters

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Ultrasound (US) has been proposed as a potential tool for assessing skin fibrosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc). However, a large‐scale comparison of US‐based assessment with histologic markers of skin fibrosis has not been reported. We evaluated US‐based skin assessments for their face validity (differentiation between involved SSc and healthy
