ICDAR 2013 Competition on Writer Identification
2013 12th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2013Writer identification is important for forensic analysis, helping experts to deliberate on the authenticity of documents. The ICDAR2013 Competition on Writer Identification is part of a competition series (see also ICDAR2011 and ICFHR2012 Writer Identification Contests) which is dedicated to record recent advances in the field of writer identification ...

Author identification using writer-dependent and writer-independent strategies
Proceedings of the 2008 ACM symposium on Applied computing, 2008In this work we discuss author identification for documents written in Portuguese. Two different approaches were compared. The first is the writer-independent model which reduces the pattern recognition problem to a single model and two classes, hence, makes it possible to build robust system even when few genuine samples per writer are available.

Writer Identification and Verification
2008Writer identification and verification have gained increased interest recently, especially in the fields of forensic document examination and biometrics. Writer identification assigns a handwriting to one writer out of a set of writers. It determines whether or not a given handwritten text has in fact been written by a claimed writer.

Information retrieval based writer identification
Seventh International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2003. Proceedings., 2005This communication deals with the Writer Identificationtask. Our previous work has shown the interest of usingthe graphemes as features for describing the individualproperties of Handwriting. We propose here to exploit thesame feature set but using an information retrievalparadigm to describe and compare the handwritten queryto each sample of ...

Authorship Invarianceness for Writer Identification
2009 International Conference on Biometrics and Kansei Engineering, 2009The uniqueness of shape and style of handwriting can be used for author’s authentication. Acquiring individual features to obtain Authorship Invarianceness Concept have led to an important research in Writer Identification domain. This paper discusses the investigation of this concept by extracting individual features using Geometric Moment Function ...

Writer identification using Gabor wavelet
Proceedings of the 4th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation (Cat. No.02EX527), 2003This paper focuses on a system to fulfill writer identification, which identifies a person with his/her handwriting. A text independent method is proposed in this paper, which involves no local feature analysis. First, a preprocessing method is employed to normalize script images.

Writer identification based on handwriting
IEE Third European Workshop on Handwriting Analysis and Recognition, 1998This paper describes a text-independent writer identification method. The difficulties with writer identification are discussed. These include the sensitivity of the identification algorithm to variations in the size of the training samples, in the words, line and character spacing, point sizes, and scanner resolutions.

Writer Identification in Handwritten Documents
Ninth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR 2007), 2007This work presents an effective method for writer identification in handwritten documents. We have developed a local approach, based on the extraction of characteristics that are specific to a writer. To exploit the existence of redundant patterns within a handwriting, the writing is divided into a large number of small sub-images, and the sub-images ...

Automatic Writer Identification of Ancient Greek Inscriptions
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2009This paper introduces a novel methodology for the classification of ancient Greek inscriptions according to the writer who carved them. Inscription writer identification is crucial for dating the written content, which in turn is of fundamental importance in the sciences of history and archaeology.

AUTOMATIC ALLOGRAPH MATCHING IN FORENSIC WRITER IDENTIFICATION
International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 2007A well-established task in forensic writer identification focuses on the comparison of prototypical character shapes (allographs) present in handwriting. In order for a computer to perform this task convincingly, it should yield results that are plausible and understandable to the human expert. Trajectory matching is a well-known method to compare two
