ICDAR 2013 Competition on Writer Identification

2013 12th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2013
Writer identification is important for forensic analysis, helping experts to deliberate on the authenticity of documents. The ICDAR2013 Competition on Writer Identification is part of a competition series (see also ICDAR2011 and ICFHR2012 Writer Identification Contests) which is dedicated to record recent advances in the field of writer identification ...

ICDAR 2011 Writer Identification Contest

2011 International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2011
ICDAR 2011 Writer Identification Contest is the first contest which is dedicated to record recent advances in the field of writer identification using established evaluation performance measures. The benchmarking dataset of the contest was created with the help of 26 writers that were asked to copy eight pages that contain text in several languages ...

A Set of Geometrical Features for Writer Identification

2012
Writer identification is an important field in the forensic document examination. We propose in this paper a set of geometrical features that makes it possible to characterize writers. They include directions, curvatures and tortuosities. We show how these features can be combined with edge based directional features as well as chain code based ...

Author identification using writer-dependent and writer-independent strategies

Proceedings of the 2008 ACM symposium on Applied computing, 2008
In this work we discuss author identification for documents written in Portuguese. Two different approaches were compared. The first is the writer-independent model which reduces the pattern recognition problem to a single model and two classes, hence, makes it possible to build robust system even when few genuine samples per writer are available.

On writer identification for Arabic historical manuscripts

International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition (IJDAR), 2017
This paper introduces new methodologies for reliably identifying writers of Arabic historical manuscripts. We propose an approach that transforms key point-based features, such as SIFT, into a global form that captures high-level characteristics of writing styles.

Using Markov chains for identification of writers

Literary and Linguistic Computing, 2001
In this paper we present a technique for authorship attribution based on a simple Markov chain of letters, i.e. only letter bigrams are used. Many proposed methods of authorship attribution are illustrated on small examples. We show that this technique provides excellent results when applied to over 380 texts from the Project Gutenberg archives, as ...

Writer Identification in Noisy Handwritten Documents

2017 IEEE Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision (WACV), 2017
Identifying the writer of a handwritten document based on visual features is difficult, as evidenced by the limited number of subject matter experts proficient in forensic document analysis. Automating writer identification would be beneficial for such experts' workloads.

Representation Learning and Dissimilarity for Writer Identification

2019 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP), 2019
Writer identification by using manuscripts became a very important research topic in forensic analysis of documents. That is because the writing can be considered as an identifying characteristic of a person. By analyzing the challenges and the resources available for the research development in this field of investigation, one can find different ...

Writer identification on historical Glagolitic documents

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
This work aims at automatically identifying scribes of historical Slavonic manuscripts. The quality of the ancient documents is partially degraded by faded-out ink or varying background. The writer identification method used is based on image features, which are described with Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) features. A visual vocabulary is
