Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Profiling neoadjuvant therapy response in rectal cancer using meta‐analysis of publicly available transcriptomic RNA‐seq datasets

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates publicly available transcriptomic datasets to identify molecular signatures associated with response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer. By analyzing a combination of multiple cohorts with bioinformatics approaches, we reveal biological pathways and immune‐related features that may improve ...

A flexible image retrieval framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper discusses a framework for image retrieval. Most current systems are based on a single technique for feature extraction and similarity search. Each technique has its advantages and drawbacks concerning the result quality. Usually they cover one

The VHL tumor suppressor at the crossroad of protein folding, aggregation, and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Mutations, environmental stress, and chaperone dysfunction can destabilize pVHL, promoting its conversion from the native folded state into amyloid‐like assemblies. This transition may contribute to protein storage, cell dormancy, survival, and drug resistance.

Voces silentes y contrapuntos heterotópicos sobre el fenómeno inmigratorio: recuperaciones de los Beck Bernard y de Laura Pariani desde la academia argentina = Silent voices and heterotopic counterpoints about the immigration phenomenon: the Beck Bernard’s and Laura Pariani’s recovery from the Argentine academy

open access: yesCivitas - Revista de Ciências Sociais, 2015
The new migrant identities, the issue of circulation at a time in history that seems to be marked by the flow, the relativization of time-space coordinates, the recycling of patterns, and the construction/deconstruction of cultures in motion or mobility ...

Predictive and prognostic biomarkers of Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin therapy failure in bladder cancer patients: A systematic review

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐risk bladder cancer is typically treated with Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG), but 30–40% of patients relapse. No FDA‐ or CE‐approved biomarkers currently predict or prognosticate BCG failure. We systematically reviewed the literature and identified 72 eligible studies, revealing several promising biomarkers associated with BCG treatment response ...

Document expansion for image retrieval [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Successful information retrieval requires effective matching between the user's search request and the contents of relevant documents. Often the request entered by a user may not use the same topic relevant terms as the authors' of the documents.

NAPRT loss promotes lung tumor initiation and growth through AKT signaling independently of NAD+ biosynthesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of NAPRT promotes lung tumor initiation and growth through a noncanonical mechanism, independent of its role in NAD+ biosynthesis. Mechanistically, NAPRT depletion activates the mTORC2‐driven AKT/β‐catenin signaling axis to enhance clonogenic and invasive phenotypes. Furthermore, lung‐specific Naprt deletion significantly increases tumor burden in

High Working Memory Capacity Predicts Less Retrieval Induced Forgetting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background : Working Memory Capacity (WMC) is thought to be related to executive control and focused memory search abilities. These two hypotheses make contrasting predictions regarding the effects of retrieval on forgetting.

Unique circulating miRNAome signatures captured with distinct molecular states in Lynch syndrome and sporadic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNA profiles distinguish nonmalignant Lynch syndrome from cancer‐associated Lynch syndrome, sporadic colorectal cancer, and healthy controls. Age‐stratified analysis reveals disease‐specific regulatory states, and a six‐miRNA panel shows concordant separation in an independent colorectal tissue cohort.
