Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Writing Beyond Art [PDF]

open access: yes
Discussions on writing in the context of art practice are often framed and explored as matters of boundaries. While the territorial claims of one discipline over another may be important issues—not least for artists contextualising their work in relation

A Knowledge‐Based Approach for Understanding and Managing Additive Manufacturing Data

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing processes generate a large amount of data. Effectively managing, understanding, and retrieving information from this data remains a major challenge. Therefore, we propose an ontology‐based approach to integrate heterogeneous data, enable semantic queries, and support decision‐making.

Chinese Calligraphy and the Art of Writing

open access: yesAMA Journal of Ethics, 2022
The popularity of portraits of clinicians during the COVID-19 pandemic suggested the importance of visual representation of what mass illness demands of us all-and particularly those on the front lines of health care. In addition to surges in variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, persons of Asian descent have endured waves of bigotry and violence. With the

Rethinking Calligraphy: Anachronisms And Semantic Misalignments in Western Writing Traditions

open access: yesArt Time
This study aims to re-examine the word calligraphy by its definitions and perceptions within the Western writing tradition. Conventionally translated as “the art of beautiful handwriting,” this definition causes an anachronistic framework that does not ...

The art and science of femtosecond laser writing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We demonstrate how femtosecond laser writing can challenge common beliefs in optics. Recently discovered phenomena of quill writing related to self-assembled nanostructuring in glasses and non-reciprocal laser writing in crystals are ...
