An Optical Search for New Outbursting Low Mass X-Ray Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Transient low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) are discovered largely by X-ray and gamma-ray all-sky monitors. The X-ray outburst is also accompanied by an optical brightening, which empirically can precede the detection of X-rays.

The X-ray binary population in M33: II. X-ray spectra and variability

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper we investigate the X-ray spectra and X-ray spectral variability of compact X-ray sources for 3 Chandra observations of the Local Group galaxy M33. The observations are centered on the nucleus and the star forming region NGC 604.

Dual‐Percolative Planar‐Heterojunction Photoactive System for High‐Performance Stretchable Organic Photovoltaics Enhancing Power Output under Strain

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐percolative planar‐heterojunction photoactive architecture enables intrinsically stretchable organic photovoltaics that combine high photovoltaic efficiency with enhanced mechanical robustness. Abstract Intrinsically stretchable organic solar cells (IS‐OSCs) are promising candidates for wearable power sources due to their ability to deform in ...

The hard X-ray behavior of Aql X-1 during type-I bursts

open access: yes, 2013
We report the discovery of an anti-correlation between the soft and the hard X-ray lightcurves of the X-ray binary Aql X-1 when bursting. This behavior may indicate that the corona is cooled by the soft X-ray shower fed by the type-I X-ray bursts, and ...

An Ionic Gelation Powder for Ultrafast Hemostasis and Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafast ionic gelation‐activated hemostatic powder (AGCL) forms a hydrogel within ≈1 s upon contact with blood‐derived calcium ions. The AGCL powder enables rapid hemorrhage control, strong tissue adhesion, and enhanced healing. The powder's pre‐crosslinked polymer network ensures high blood uptake and stability, offering effective treatment for ...

X-Ray Polarized View of the Accretion Geometry in the X-Ray Binary Circinus X-1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Cir X-1 is a neutron star X-ray binary characterized by strong variations in flux during its eccentric ∼16.6 day orbit. There are also strong variations in the spectral state, and it has historically shown both atoll and Z state properties.

Encoding Magnetic Anisotropies in Digital Light Processing 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid magnetic device—combining a coaxial coil within a nested Halbach array—is presented, integrated into a DLP 3D printer to enable spatially resolved magnetic field control. This system enables complex, multimodal responses by programming liquid crystal elastomer resins for magnetic and thermal actuation, and by inducing electrically conductive ...

Evidence for a Cyclotron Absorption Line and Spectral Transition in EXO 2030+375 during the 2021 Giant Outburst

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Based on Insight-HXMT observations of EXO 2030+375 during its 2021 giant outburst, we report the analysis of pulse variations and the broadband X-ray spectrum, and find the presence of a potential cyclotron resonant scattering feature (CRSF) with the ...
