On the nature of the X-ray outbursts in Be/X-ray binaries
Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2018AbstractBe/X-ray binaries are a major subclass of high mass X-ray binaries. Two different X-ray outbursts are displayed in the X-ray light curves of such systems. It is generally believed that the X-ray outbursts are connected with the neutron star periastron passage of the circumstellar disk around the Be star.

The types of x-ray and visible light observations that have been made are described, some specific illustrations are given, and the model applied to the observations to determine the system's parameters is outlined. In addition to displaying the nominal parameters, the sensitivity of the results to various uncertainties in the experimental observations

Detection of the progenitors of Be X-ray Binaries
Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2018AbstractA recent survey of the far-ultraviolet spectra of 264 B-emission line stars has revealed 16 systems with hot companions that are the stripped down remains of a former mass donor star. Some of these will probably become Be + neutron star X-ray binaries in the future.

X-ray scattering in x-ray binary pulsars
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1994In x‐ray pulsars, the emission from the bottom of the accretion column in the magnetic pole propagates to the observers through the surrounding environment: the magnetosphere, the accretion disk and the disk corona, the stellar wind, the companion’s atmosphere, and finally the interstellar medium.
