A NICER Viewing Angle on the Accretion Stream of Vela X-1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Vela X-1 is the archetypal eclipsing high-mass X-ray binary, composed of a neutron star (NS) accreting the B-star wind. It was observed by nearly all X-ray observatories, often multiple times, featuring a rich spectrum of variable emission lines. However,

NuSTAR observations and broadband spectral energy distribution modeling of the millisecond pulsar binary PSR J1023+0038 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We report the first hard X-ray (3-79 keV) observations of the millisecond pulsar (MSP) binary PSR J1023+0038 using NuSTAR. This system has been shown transiting between a low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) state and a rotation-powered MSP state.

The eclipsing massive X-ray binary M33 X-7: New X-ray observations and optical identification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The eclipsing X-ray binary M33 X-7 was in the field of view during several observations of our XMM-Newton M33 survey and in the archival Chanfdra observation 1730 which cover a large part of the 3.45 d orbital period. We detect emission of M33 X-7 during

NuSTAR Hard X-ray Observation of the Gamma-ray Binary Candidate HESS J1832-093 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present a hard X-ray observation of the TeV gamma-ray binary candidate HESS J1832-093 coincident with supernova remnant (SNR) G22.7-0.2 using the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR). Non-thermal X-ray emission from XMMU J183245-0921539, the

A ROSAT Survey of Contact Binary Stars

open access: yes, 2005
Contact binary stars are common variable stars which are all believed to emit relatively large fluxes of x-rays. In this work we combine a large new sample of contact binary stars derived from the ROTSE-I telescope with x-ray data from the ROSAT All-Sky ...

The eclipsing X-ray pulsar X-7 in M33 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Using our extensive ROSAT X-ray observations of M33, we confirm a 3.45 day eclipse period for the Einstein source X-7 (Larson & Schulman, 1997) and discover evidence for a 0.31-s pulse period.

A global study of X-ray binaries [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of VII Microquasar Workshop: Microquasars and Beyond — PoS(MQW7), 2009
We present preliminary results on a global study of X-ray binaries using 14 Ms of data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer satellite. Our initial study on GX 339-4 is recapped as an introduction to the methods used. We use a consistent analysis scheme for all objects, with three different spectral models to fit the powerlaw and disc components.

The Swift Deep Galactic Plane Survey (DGPS) Phase I Catalog

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
The Swift Deep Galactic Plane Survey (DGPS) is a Swift Key Project consisting of 380 tiled pointings covering ∼40 deg ^2 of the Galactic plane between longitude 10 < ∣ l ∣ < 30 deg and latitude ∣ b ∣ < 0.5 deg. Each pointing has a 5 ks exposure, yielding
