With their relatively fast variability time-scales, Galactic X-ray binaries provide an excellent laboratory to explore the physics of accretion and related phenomena, most notably outflows, over different regimes.

Evidence for a Black Hole Spin–Orbit Misalignment in the X-Ray Binary Cyg X-1
Recently, the accretion geometry of the black hole X-ray binary Cyg X-1 was probed with the X-ray polarization. The position angle of the X-ray-emitting flow was found to be aligned with the position angle of the radio jet in the plane of the sky. At the

Reflection and Timing Study of the Transient Black Hole X-Ray Binary MAXI J1803-298 with NuSTAR
The transient black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1803−298 was discovered on 2021 May 1, as it went into outburst from a quiescent state. As the source rose in flux it showed periodic absorption dips and fit the timing and spectral characteristics of a hard ...

Three New Galactic Center X-ray Sources Identified with Near-Infrared Spectroscopy
We have conducted a near-infrared spectroscopic survey of 47 candidate counterparts to X-ray sources discovered by the Chandra X-ray Observatory near the Galactic Center (GC).

Spectral Transitions in X-Ray Binaries [PDF]
We systematically analyzed about a terabyte of data from Galactic binary systems to characterize how these spectra change as a function of mass accretion rate. With this volume of data we are able to identify the differences in behaviour of black holes and neutron stars, implying that black holes really do have an event horizon.

X-Ray and UV Observations of the Contact Binary KIC 9832227
We investigate the X-ray and UV emission from the contact binary star KIC 9832227, which was observed with XMM-Newton for one orbital cycle. The binary is detected with an average X-ray luminosity of 3.4 × 10 ^30 erg s ^−1 .

Modeling the X-ray Contribution of X-ray Binary Jets
Astrophysical jets exist in both XRBs and AGN, and seem to share common features, particularly in the radio. While AGN jets are known to emit X-rays, the situation for XRB jets is not so clear.

X-ray emission has now been detected from a large number and variety of binary systems. A brief survey of the properties of these binary systems is given, primarily from an optical standpoint.
