Optical spectroscopy of (candidate) ultra-compact X-ray binaries [PDF]
We present (preliminary) results of our systematic spectroscopic study of (candidate) ultra-compact X-ray binaries. Most candidates are confirmed and we found the first optical spectra of (pure) carbon-oxygen accretion discs.

A Precessing Stellar Disk Model for Superorbital Modulations of the Gamma-Ray Binary LS I+61° 303
Gamma-ray binary LS I+61° 303 consists of a neutron star orbiting around a Be star with a period of P _orb ≃ 26.5 days. Apart from orbital modulations, the binary shows long-term flux variations with a superorbital period of ${P}_{\sup }\simeq 4.6\,{\rm ...

X-ray Pulsations in the Supersoft X-ray Binary CAL 83
X-ray data reveal that the supersoft X-ray binary CAL 83 exhibits 38.4 minute pulsations at some epochs. These X-ray variations are similar to those found in some novae and are likely to be caused by nonradial pulsations the white dwarf.

X-Ray Polarimetry as a Tool to Constrain Orbital Parameters in X-Ray Binaries
X-ray binary systems consist of a companion star and a compact object in close orbit. Thanks to their copious X-ray emission, these objects have been studied in detail using X-ray spectroscopy and timing.

A Lack of 9 s Periodicity in the Follow-up NuSTAR Observation of LS 5039
The Nuclear Spectroscopic Array (NuSTAR) observed the gamma-ray binary LS 5039 for a second time in order to check for the presence of a periodic signal candidate found in the data from the previous NuSTAR observation.

Low-Mass X-ray Binary Populations
Low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) have been studied in the Galaxy since the beginning of X-ray astronomy. A lot has been learned about these bright X-ray sources, but significant questions are still open.

Long-term Quasiperiodicity in LMXB 4U 1636–536
We present the results of the low-mass X-ray binary 4U 1636–536 study. We performed a temporal analysis of all available RXTE/All-Sky Monitor, RXTE/Proportional Counter Array, Swift/Burst Alert Telescope, and MAXI data collected until the middle of 2022.

Formation of Sco X-1 induced by anomalous magnetic braking of Ap/Bp stars
Sco X-1 is the brightest persistent X-ray in the sky. It is generally believed that Sco X-1 is a low-mass X-ray binary containing a neutron star accreting from a low-mass donor star where mass transfer is driven by the magnetic braking. However, the mass

Evolution of hard X-ray photon index in black-hole X-ray binaries: hints for accretion physics [PDF]
The anti- and positive correlations between X-ray photon index and Eddington-scaled X-ray luminosity were found in decay phase of X-ray binary outbursts and a sample of active galactic nuclei in former works. We further systematically investigate the evolution of X-ray spectral index, along the X-ray flux and Eddington ratio in eight outbursts of four ...
