X-ray polarization of gamma-ray bursts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The degree and the temporal evolution of linear polarization in the prompt and afterglow emission of gamma-ray bursts is a very robust diagnostic of some key features of gamma-ray bursts jets and their micro and macro physics. In this contribution, I review the current status of the theory of polarized emission from GRB jets during the prompt, optical ...

Nanoscale Spatial Organization of ARC High‐ and Low‐Order Assemblies at Excitatory Synapses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ARC (Activity‐Regulated Cytoskeleton‐Associated protein) mediates synaptic plasticity by forming nanoscale assemblies in neurons. Using super‐resolution microscopy and time‐resolved anisotropy with targeted tagging, the study reveals low‐order ARC assemblies at synapses colocalizing with AMPARs, semi‐circular structures at endocytic zones, and 60–80 nm

Investigating the Recursive Short X-Ray Burst Behavior of Magnetars through Crustal Interactions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Energetic bursts from strongly magnetized neutron stars, known as magnetars, are typically detected in clusters. Once an active episode begins, anywhere from a few to thousands of hard X-ray bursts can occur over durations ranging from days to months ...

Hard X-ray imaging from Explorer [PDF]

open access: yes
Coded aperture X-ray detectors were applied to obtain large increases in sensitivity as well as angular resolution. A hard X-ray coded aperture detector concept is described which enables very high sensitivity studies persistent hard X-ray sources and ...

Profiling Localized Immunomodulation and Drug Biodistribution within a Subcutaneous Vascularized Niche for Cell Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We studied how five common immunosuppressants behave when delivered directly to a transplant site instead of systemically. Using a vascularized implant for islet transplantation, we show that local delivery protects grafts, limits drug spread to the rest of the body, and produces distinct immune signatures.

On the Relation Between GRB Classes and X-ray Flashes

open access: yesActa Polytechnica, 2012
Gamma-ray bursts are usually classified into either short-duration or long-duration bursts. Going beyond the short-long classification scheme, it has been shown on statistical grounds that a third, intermediate population is needed in this classification

EP240801a/XRF 240801B: An X-Ray Flash Detected by the Einstein Probe and the Implications of Its Multiband Afterglow

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present multiband observations and analysis of EP240801a, a low-energy, extremely soft gamma-ray burst (GRB) discovered on 2024 August 1 by the Einstein Probe (EP) satellite with a weak contemporaneous signal also detected by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst

Recent Advances in Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Based Gas Sensors: From Sensing Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Future Perspectives for Gamma-ray Burst Detection from Space

open access: yesUniverse
Since their first discovery in the late 1960s, gamma-ray bursts have attracted an exponentially growing interest from the international community due to their central role in the most highly debated open questions of the modern research of astronomy ...

Peculiar outbursts of an ultra luminous source likely signs of an aperiodic disc-wind

open access: yes, 2019
The metal rich globular cluster RZ 2109 in the massive Virgo elliptical galaxy NGC 4472 (M49) harbours the ultra luminous X-ray source XMMU 122939.7+075333.
