Maximizing temperature sensitivity in a one-dimensional photonic crystal thermal sensor

open access: yesScientific Reports
This paper focuses on a defective one-dimensional photonic crystal thermal sensor with fabricated layers of gallium nitride, glycerin, and air. The transmission features of this sensor have been presented based on the transfer matrix approach using ...

High‐quality X‐ray computed tomography reconstruction using projected and interpolated images

open access: yesIET Image Processing, 2019
Recent advances in computation power have allowed computed tomography (CT) to utilise iterative reconstruction (IR) algorithms. The IR technique can handle noisy data and reconstructs optimal CT images from limited projected images.

Interlaced X-ray diffraction computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, 2016
An X-ray diffraction computed tomography data-collection strategy that allows, post experiment, a choice between temporal and spatial resolution is reported. This strategy enables time-resolved studies on comparatively short timescales, or alternatively allows for improved spatial resolution if the system under study, or components within it, appear to

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

High-throughput three-dimensional visualization of root system architecture of rice using X-ray computed tomography

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2019
Background X-ray computed tomography (CT) allows us to visualize root system architecture (RSA) beneath the soil, non-destructively and in a three-dimensional (3-D) form.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

X-ray computed tomography investigations of Cucuteni ceramic statuettes

open access: yesDocumenta Praehistorica, 2013
Deciphering the internal structure of prehistoric artefacts can provide spectacular insights that might help us understand the people who made them. In order to preserve the integrity of these relics of past civilisations, it is desirable to make such ...

Ring artifacts removal in X-ray-induced acoustic computed tomography

open access: yesJournal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences, 2022
X-ray-induced acoustic computed tomography (XACT) is a hybrid imaging modality for detecting X-ray absorption distribution via ultrasound emission. It facilitates imaging from a single projection X-ray illumination, thus reducing the radiation exposure ...
