Diffractive optics approach towards subwavelength pixels

open access: yes, 2018
Pixel size in cameras and other refractive imaging devices is typically limited by the free-space diffraction. However, a vast majority of semiconductor-based detectors are based on materials with substantially high refractive index.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Ray-tracing analysis of diffractive–refractive X-ray optics

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, 2004
Ray-tracing simulations of mistuned sagittal diffractive-refractive X-ray lenses (DRXL) are presented. In this article, firstly the characteristic aberrations for various types of crystal misalignments within one-crystal and four-crystal DRXLs are considered, and the sensitivity of such an optical system to the mutual misalignment of its components is ...

When holography meets coherent diffraction imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Modern imaging techniques at the molecular scale rely on utilizing novel coherent light sources like X-ray free electron lasers for the ultimate goal of visualizing such objects as individual biomolecules rather than crystals. Here, unlike in the case of

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Influence of diffraction on the spectrum and wavefunctions of an open system

open access: yes, 2000
In this paper, we demonstrate the existence and significance of diffractive orbits in an open microwave billiard, both experimentally and theoretically.

Water Window Ptychographic Imaging with Characterized Coherent X-rays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We report on a ptychographical coherent diffractive imaging experiment in the water window with focused soft X-rays at $500~\mathrm{eV}$. An X-ray beam with high degree of coherence was selected for ptychography at the P04 beamline of the PETRA III ...

Enhancing Strength and Electrical Conductivity in Al–Zr–Sc Conductor Alloys Through Sn and Sr Microalloying and Two‐Step Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Trace additions of Sn and Sr combined with a two‐step aging treatment are shown to enhance the microstructure and performance of Al–Zr–Sc conductor alloys. Strength and electrical conductivity increase concurrently through accelerated precipitation of fine Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates and improved dislocation resistance, offering a cost‐effective pathway ...

An open source code for modeling radio wave propagation in earth’s ionosphere

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
We present FARR (Finite-difference time-domain ARRay), an open source, high-performance, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) code. FARR is specifically designed for modeling radio wave propagation in collisional, magnetized plasmas like those found in ...

Visualizing aerosol-particle injection for diffractive-imaging experiments

open access: yes, 2015
Delivering sub-micrometer particles to an intense x-ray focus is a crucial aspect of single-particle diffractive-imaging experiments at x-ray free-electron lasers.
