Analytical characterization of ancient mortars from the archaeological roman site of Pisões (Beja, Portugal) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The analytical characterization of mortar samples from the roman archaeological site of Pisões, located in Southern Portugal, were carried out by means of X-ray diffractometry (XRD), thermogravimetry (TGADTA), optical and electron scanning microscopy ...

Moderate Fire Temperatures Affect the Structure of Clayey Oxisol Aggregates

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wildfires have become increasingly frequent and intense worldwide, raising concerns about their impacts on soil systems. However, the thermal responses of clay‐rich Oxisols, dominated by Fe and Al oxides, remain poorly understood. In this study, samples from the 0 to 5 cm layer of six Oxisols were subjected to controlled heating at ...

Real‐Time Probing of Complex Bi‐Periodic Self‐Organized Grating Formation via Small‐Angle Scattering

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView.
A wedge‐shaped AgCl nanolayer with a granular Ag film enables the self‐organization of bi‐periodic nanostructures. Real‐time SAS pattern analysis reveals dynamic domain interactions and competing gratings, validating a generator/re‐emitter model driven by TEn mode excitations. This framework offers a novel approach for evaluating SPN formation quality.

X-ray Fresnel diffractometry for ultralow emittance diagnostics of next generation synchrotron light sources

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2015
A novel technique using single-slit x-ray Fresnel diffraction has been developed to resolve μm-order electron beam sizes at the insertion devices (IDs) of photon beam lines. The new technique is promising for diagnostics of next-generation light sources,

Filling Uniformity of AgNPs in EMI Shielding Patch Regulated by Surface Morphology

open access: yesRare Metals, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are extensively employed for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding owing to their remarkable conductivity, and are commonly incorporated into polymer matrices. Therefore, the uniformity of the AgNP distribution within the polymer matrix is a crucial factor that affects the EMI shielding performance.

Validation of ultrasonic velocity estimates of wood properties in discs of radiata pine

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Forestry Science, 2017
Background Measurement of microfibril angle (MFA) in the S2 layer of the cell walls of wood using speed of sound in wood has become a common way to estimate wood stiffness and stability. Measurements across the radius of a disc can be critical, but sonic
