Abstract In the last decade, hard X-ray holography using an inside reference point has been developed for the study of 3D atomic arrangements in solids. Two types of this method are used: “normal holography” in which the atoms serve as sources of X-radiation and “inverse holography” in which the atoms detect the interference field originating from ...

Polarization of molecular x-ray fluorescence
Physical Review Letters, 1988Polarization of Cl K\ensuremath{\beta} x-ray fluorescence following selective excitation of gaseous ${\mathrm{CH}}_{3}$CL with synchrotron radiation is reported. The degree of polarization of the fluorescence depends sensitively on the chosen incident excitation energy in the Cl K-edge region.

Atmospheric X-ray fluorescence
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1971Solar-stimulated fluorescence by photoelectric ionization in the earth's upper atmosphere generates fluxes of up to 9×104 photons cm−2 sec−1 ster−1 at 110 km for nitrogen K-α emission. The corresponding maximum flux for oxygen is 1×104 photons cm−2 sec−1 ster−1 at approximately the same altitude. Recent observations have confirmed the fluorescence at a

X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, 1983Abstract This is a general review of X-ray emission spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation from storage ring sources. Applications thus far have been to chemical analysis and to use of emission as a probe of absorption in dilute samples. One class of application combines the use of high resolution primary monochromator with a secondary spectrometer

Although X- ray fluorescence technique, in principle, belongs to an atomic method, it is often cataloged into nuclear discipline, especially those based on nuclear facilities, e.g. accelerator, isotopic sources and radiation detection spectrometry.

X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) is a powerful analytical technique for the qualitative and quantitative determination of chemical elements in a sample. The operating principle of XRF is based on the irradiation of the sample with ionizing radiation, thus inducing excited states of the atoms in the analyte.

The intensification of X-Ray fluorescent images
Electrical Engineering, 1951Two experimental models of devices for the intensification of X-ray fluorescent images were put into use in September 1950. These devices have a brightness amplification slightly over 100 times and enable detection of a 3-per cent thickness difference.

X-ray fluorescence analysis has come a long way in the sixty years since Moseley began his classic experiments on the relation of x-ray wavelength to atomic number.(1) During this period several significant milestones were reached: in 1923 Coster and Von Hevesy confirmed the existence of element 72, Hafnium, from the x-ray spectra of Norwegian zircon ...
