'Microbial mortar'- restoration of degraded marble structures with microbially induced carbonate precipitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
To evaluate a restoration strategy for highly degraded marble structures, microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) has been employed to reduce porosity and permeability in a column filled with coarse crushed marble.

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Line-Source Based X-Ray Tomography

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biomedical Imaging, 2009
Current computed tomography (CT) scanners, including micro-CT scanners, utilize a point x-ray source. As we target higher and higher spatial resolutions, the reduced x-ray focal spot size limits the temporal and contrast resolutions achievable.

3D imaging of clay minerals inside sandstone: pushing the spatial resolution limits using ptychographic tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Characterization of microporous, clay-sized particles in natural stone is essential for the understanding of their dynamics. These processes are importand in the fields of oil and gas, groundwater, building stone weathering and soil science. Methods such

Residual CO2 imaged with x-ray micro-tomography

open access: yes, 2011
Carbon capture and storage (CCS), where CO2 is injected into geological formations, has been identified as an important way to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. While there are several aquifers worldwide into which CO2 has been injected, there is still uncertainty in terms of the long‐term fate of the CO2.

Does Micro-CT scanning damage DNA in museum specimens? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
X-ray micro-computed tomography and DNA sequencing are useful and increasingly common tools in taxonomy and collections research. Whilst the benefits of each method are continually evaluated and debated individually, how the methods impact each other ...

High spectral and spatial resolution X-ray transmission radiography and tomography using a Color X-ray Camera [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
High resolution X-ray radiography and computed tomography are excellent techniques for non-destructive characterization of an object under investigation at a spatial resolution in the micrometer range.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...
