Three-Dimensional X-Ray Microtomography
Science, 1987The new technique of x-ray microtomography nondestructively generates three-dimensional maps of the x-ray attenuation coefficient inside small samples with approximately 1 percent accuracy and with resolution approaching 1 micrometer. Spatially resolved elemental maps can be produced with synchrotron x-ray sources by scanning samples at energies just ...

SUMMARYA microscope system based on the principles of computerized axial tomography is described for determining the distribution of the X‐ray absorption coefficient in a slice from a solid object without cutting sections. An application is given to determining the distribution at a resolution of about 15 μm through a shell of about 0·5 mm diameter.

Materials Characterization, 2010
In this tutorial, we describe X-ray microtomography as a technique to nondestructively characterize material microstructure in three dimensions at a micron level spatial resolution. While commercially available laboratory scale instrumentation is available, we focus our attention on synchrotron-based systems, where we can exploit a high flux ...

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1988
We have developed a new X-ray microscope which produces complete three dimensional images of samples. The microscope operates by performing X-ray tomography with unprecedented resolution. Tomography is a non-invasive imaging technique that creates maps of the internal structure of samples from measurement of the attenuation of penetrating radiation. As

X-ray diffraction microtomography
Measurement Science and Technology, 1993A table-top system has been developed for tomographic imaging of the internal structure of objects of low mass density at sub-millimetre resolution. Images are based on the X-ray diffraction properties of constituent materials, and are reconstructed from tomographic data using summation-filtered back-projection.

Magnified hard X-ray microtomography
2000 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium. Conference Record (Cat. No.00CH37149), 2002Summary form only given. In the field of hard X-ray microtomography one goal is the enhancement of resolution. Several ways can be followed to obtain this objective. One possibility is the use of high-resolution X-ray films or detector screens coupled with a microscope optical system.

Synchrotron X-Ray Microtomography
1988We present results obtained with a new form of 3-D microscopy. The technique is based on tomographic methods and we refer to it as 3-D Microtomography. When used with a tunable X-ray source, it is a powerful diagnostic and research tool for a wide variety of materials studies problems.

Energy-modulated x-ray microtomography
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1988We describe an instrument for computerized x-ray tomography which can provide fully three-dimensional examination of small samples (a few millimeters to a few centimeters) with resolution variable from 5 to 100 μm. Elemental and chemical-state distributions are obtained with high resolution by modulating the energy of the incident x-ray beam.
