Surface properties of SmB6 from x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2014
We have investigated the properties of cleaved SmB$_6$ single crystals by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. At low temperatures and freshly cleaved samples a surface core level shift is observed which vanishes when the temperature is increased.

Combustion synthesized TiO2 for enhanced photocatalytic activity under the direct sunlight-optimization of titanylnitrate synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Optimized synthesis of Ti-precursor ‘titanylnitrate’ for one step combustion synthesis of N- and C-doped TiO2 catalysts were reported and characterized by using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), diffused reflectance ...

Single-Layer Graphene/Germanium Interface Representing a Schottky Junction Studied by Photoelectron Spectroscopy

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2023
We investigated the interfacial electronic structure of the bidimensional interface of single-layer graphene on a germanium substrate. The procedure followed a well-established approach using ultraviolet (UPS) and X-ray (XPS) photoelectron spectroscopy ...

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies of non-stoichiometric superconducting NbB2+x

open access: yes, 2006
Polycrystalline samples of NbB2+x with nominal composition (B/Nb) = 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The spectra revealed Nb and B oxides on the surface of the samples, mainly B2O3 and Nb2O5.

Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

ZnO/ZnAl2O4 Nanocomposite Films Studied by X-Ray Diffraction, FTIR, and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, 2015
ZnO/ZnAl2O4 nanocomposite films were synthesised by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) by extracting Al2O(SO4)2 oxide with zinc chloride hydrate in deionised water.

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...

Electronic structures of CeRu$_2X_2$ ($X$ = Si, Ge) in the paramagnetic phase studied by soft X-ray ARPES and hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2007
Soft and hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) has been performed for one of the heavy fermion system CeRu$_2$Si$_2$ and a $4f$-localized ferromagnet CeRu$_2$Ge$_2$ in the paramagnetic phase. The three-dimensional band structures and Fermi surface (

Hf-based high-k dielectrics for p-Ge MOS gate stacks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The physical and electrical properties of the gate stack high-k/Al2O3/GeO2/p-Ge were studied in detail, where the high-k is either HfO2 or alloyed HfO2 (HfZrOy, HfGdOx, or HfAlOx).

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.
