X-ray prism lenses have been defined with the aim to collimate X-ray radiation emitted from an X-ray tube working as a condenser lenses. Such a lens must have a large aperture as low absorption as possible. X-ray prism lenses combine low absorption and large apertures.

Refractive x-ray lenses with a triangular surface profile have been used to focus a synchrotron beam to sub-μm line width. These lenses are free from spherical aberration and work in analogy with one-dimensional focusing parabolic compound refractive lenses.

Shearing X-ray interferometer with an X-ray prism and its improvement
Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings), 2003A wave-front dividing interferometer was devised in which half of a highly spatially coherent beam deflected by an x-ray prism is overlapped with another half. By placing the samples in the two beams and the x-ray imaging detector closely downstream of the sample, the differential phase of the sample is recorded on the imaging detector.

The optical system consists of a double-prism X-ray interferometer and an X-ray imaging microscope with a Fresnel zone plate objective.
