A plasma source for an imaging X-ray microscope

open access: yes, 2022
Pinch Plasmas are sources of high brilliance for soft x-rays in the wavelength range from Lambda equal 0.1 nm to 20 nm. A plasma focus device emitting line radiation of hydrogen-like nitrogen (N VII) at Lambda equal 2.5 nm into the water window region ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

The Gamma-Ray Origin of RX J0852.0-4622 Quantifying the Hadronic and Leptonic Components: Further Evidence for the Cosmic-Ray Acceleration in Young Shell-type SNRs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Fukui et al. quantified the hadronic and leptonic gamma-rays in the young TeV gamma-ray shell-type supernova remnant (SNR) RX J1713.7-3946 (RX J1713), and demonstrated that gamma rays are a combination of hadronic and leptonic gamma-ray components with a

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

High angular resolution X-ray observations of the galactic supernova remnant G266.2-1.2 (RX J0852.0-4622)

open access: yes, 2004
G266.2 1.2 (RX J0852.0 4622) is a member of the emerging class of Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) which feature X-ray spectra dominated by non-thermal emission.

Thermonuclear Superburst of MAXI J1752−457 Observed with NinjaSat and MAXI

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
An uncatalogued bright X-ray transient was detected with MAXI on 2024 November 9, named MAXI J1752−457. The NinjaSat X-ray observatory promptly observed the source from November 10 to 18, while the small angular separation from the Sun hampered follow-up
