Viewing the sun as an X-ray star
Advances in Space Research, 2003Abstract The Sun is the late-type star we can study with the highest level of detail. In the interpretation of stellar data, therefore, it is often assumed that the physical processes of the coronae of late-type stars are similar to those of the solar corona, i.e. the “solar-stellar analogy”.

More than two years of observation with Chandra and XMM-Newton has provided a rich harvest of new results on the physics of stellar coronae and winds. High-resolution X-ray spectroscopy in particular has opened new windows to the structure, the dynamics and the composition of stellar atmospheres.

The basic properties of Be stars and X-ray binary systems containing these stars are considered. In the vast majority of these systems the Be stars' companions are neutron stars accreting matter from the decretion disk of a rapidly rotating Be star. The observed properties of such systems are studied within the framework of the hypothesis that

There is a celebrated toast, “Here's to Pure Mathematics! And may they never be of any use to anybody!” It is a pious wish which has small hope of ever being fulfilled. However high-mindedly the devotee may strive to follow knowledge for its own sake uninfluenced by motives of practical utility his results have a way of turning out to be useful in ...

X-Ray Observations of Active Chromosphere Stars
Space Science Reviews, 1985HD3196 = 13 Cet α, HD30495 = 58 Eri and HD32918 have been detected as new late-type soft X-ray sources. HD32918 is a member of the FK Com class.

Most stars emit X-rays. The hot X-ray emitting gas is not gravitationally bound to the star, but is magnetically confined in loops. It is generally assumed that rotation in convective stars relates to magnetic field generation. The X-ray intensity correlates with the rotation rate of the star.

T Tauri Stars: The X-ray Connection
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1998The launch of ROSAT opened a new era in the study of T Tauri stars. Prompted by the IUE results, the new X-ray data confirms the existence of extremely high levels of activity in these young stars, very likely of magnetic nature. We address a detailed analysis of the star TW Hya in the X-ray spectral range.
