Simultaneous X-Ray and Optical Polarization Observations of the Blazar Mrk 421

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present near-simultaneous X-ray and optical polarization measurements in the high synchrotron peaked (HSP) blazar Mrk 421. The X-ray polarimetric observations were carried out using Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) on 2023 December 6.

Laser Terminals on CubeSats: Developments for Telecommunications and Quantum Links

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Satellite‐based laser communication is an emerging technology that is finding its way from research to industry. Compared to radio frequency (RF) systems, it has a more efficient size, weight, and power budget and, furthermore, is license free.

In-flight calibration of the Insight-Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We present the calibration of the Insight-Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) X-ray satellite, which can be used to perform timing and spectral studies of bright X-ray sources. Insight-HXMT carries three main payloads onboard: the High Energy X-ray telescope (HE), the Medium Energy X-ray telescope (ME) and the Low Energy X-ray telescope (LE).

2FHL J1745.1–3035: A Newly Discovered, Powerful Pulsar Wind Nebula Candidate

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a multi-epoch, multi-observatory X-ray analysis for 2FHL J1745.1–3035, a newly discovered very high-energy Galactic source detected by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) located in close proximity to the Galactic Center ( l = 358.°5319; b = −

PHOTOMETRIC STUDY OF A NEW X-RAY SOURCE -THE ECLIPSING POLAR RXJ 2107.9-0518

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
The object RXJ 2107.9-0518 was discovered as a soft X-ray source at the space observatory ROSAT in 1990. Its X-ray spectrum is characteristic to the systems of the AM Her type thus the object was suspected to be a polar.

Photonic Integrated Circuits for Optical Satellite Links: A Review of the Technology Status and Space Effects

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Optical satellite communications provide high‐data rates with compact and power efficient payloads that can solve the bottlenecks of RF technologies. Photonic integrated circuits have the potential to reduce the cost, size, weight, and power consumption of satellite laser communications terminals, by integrating all the required photonic ...

How do we Build Future X-ray Observatories to Study Galaxies? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1999
Galaxies are key objects for the study of cosmology, the life cycle of matter, and stellar evolution. X-ray observations have given us a new key window into these building blocks of the Universe, that allows us to investigate their hot gaseous component. While significant advances in our knowledge are expected from Chandra and XMM, there is a number of

Virtual Telescope for X-Ray Observations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Selected by NASA for an Astrophysics Science SmallSat study, The Virtual Telescope for X-Ray Observations (VTXO) is a small satellite mission being developed by NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and New Mexico State University (NMSU). VTXO will perform X-ray observations with an angular resolution around 50 milliarcseconds, an order of magnitude

Promiscuity Guided Evolution of Decarboxylative Aldolases for Synthesis of Tertiary γ‐Hydroxy Amino Acids

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 15, April 7, 2025.
Promiscuity guided evolution of the decarboxylative aldolase, UstD, resulted in an efficient biocatalyst for synthesis of tertiary γ‐hydroxy non‐canonical amino acids. Simultaneous collection of variant activity and promiscuity was enabled by competition screening during directed evolution.

Magnetic Continuum Robot for Intelligent Manipulation in Medical Applications

open access: yesSmartBot, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Magnetic continuum robots (MCRs) have garnered substantial attention as a new class of flexible robotic systems capable of navigating complex and confined spaces with remarkable dexterity. By combining continuous, deformable structures with remotely applied magnetic fields, MCRs achieve contactless, remote manipulation, making them well‐suited
