Attix free‐air chamber correction factors computed using EGSnrc

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 52, Issue 4, Page 1991-1996, April 2025.
Abstract Background A cylindrical free‐air chamber, the Attix FAC, is used for absolute air‐kerma measurements of low‐energy photon beams at the University of Wisconsin Medical Radiation Research Center. Correction factors for air‐kerma measurements of specific beams were determined in the 1990s.

Soft X-ray Spectrum Changes over the 35-Day Cycle in Hercules X-1 Observed with AstroSat SXT

open access: yesUniverse
Observations of the X-ray binary system Her X-1 by the AstroSat Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) were carried out in 2020 through 2023 with the goals of measuring X-ray spectrum changes with the 35-day disk precession phase and measuring eclipses at different ...

Characterization of Deformation and Failure of Fomes fomentarius Hymenium by Synchrotron Phase‐Contrast Enhanced Micro‐Computed Tomography, In situ Compression Testing and Three‐Dimensional Optical Flow

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 6, Issue 4, April 2025.
In situ compression tests on the honeycomb structure of Fomes fomentarius hymenium under parallel and transverse loading show that parallel loading results in small and uniform displacements due to hyphae orientation along the honeycomb. Damage occurs through plastic buckling and delamination of tube walls in dry samples.

Fractional Crystallization Scenario for Magma Evolution on Mercury Inferred From Geochemical Variation Around the Caloris Basin

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract The observed geochemical heterogeneity on the surface of Mercury is key to understanding the planet's volcanic activity and mantle conditions. The Caloris basin shows a diversity in elemental composition, spectral properties, and geomorphology, both within and around it.

The Magnetosphere‐Ionosphere‐Ground Responses to the May 2024 Super Solar Storm

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Earth suffered the attack of the strongest geomagnetic storm in the last 20 years (Kp = 9, Dst∼ ${\sim} $ −400 nT) occurred on 11 May 2024. Taking advantage of the LEO multi‐parameter CSES satellite (launched in 2018) with a large inclination angle 97° $97{}^{\circ}$, with the joint observations of NOAA and GOES, we present a comprehensive ...
