Reversal Asymmetry of Reciprocal Metasurface Enables Ultra‐Compact Varifocal Reflective Lens

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 1, 8 January 2026.
The possibility of breaking the reversal symmetry of a lens without violating reciprocity is demonstrated. The freedom provided is utilized to realize an ultra‐compact reflective varifocal lens‐doublet based on a flat metasurface lens and a piezoelectric actuated micromirror.

Phase-resolved Spectroscopy of Low-frequency Quasiperiodic Oscillations from the Newly Discovered Black Hole X-Ray Binary Swift J1727.8-1613

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Low-frequency quasiperiodic oscillations (LFQPOs) are commonly observed in X-ray light curves of black hole X-ray binaries (BHXRBs); however, their origin remains a topic of debate.

Nachtsicht ins All mit dem bloßen Auge: Sag mir, wie weit die Sterne steh'n

open access: yesPhysik in unserer Zeit, Volume 57, Issue 1, Page 32-40, January 2026.

Discovery of a New Flaring Class in GRS 1915+105 Using AstroSat

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The highly variable black hole X-ray binary GRS 1915+105 has shown many flaring classes when the source oscillates between the high soft state (HS) and the hard intermediate state with a transition time of less than 10 s. The X-ray flux is anticorrelated

Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory: Die Zukunft der Gammaastronomie

open access: yesPhysik in unserer Zeit, Volume 57, Issue 1, Page 10-18, January 2026.

Discovery of a Pair of Galaxies with Both Hosting X-Ray Binary Candidates at z = 2.544

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Among high-redshift galaxies, aside from active galactic nuclei (AGNs), X-ray binaries (XRBs) can be significant sources of X-ray emission. XRBs play a crucial role in galaxy evolution, reflecting the stellar populations of galaxies and regulating star ...

Single‐Molecule FRET‐Tracking of InlB‐Activated MET Receptors in Living Cells

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 5, 22 January 2026.
Single‐molecule FRET and single‐particle tracking reveal how ligand binding drives dimerization and activation of the MET receptor tyrosine kinase in living cells. Single‐molecule FRET reports on the lifetime of the (MET:InlB)2 complex. Distinct diffusion coefficients and modes of monomeric and dimeric receptor complexes uncover nanometer‐scale ...

XMM-Newton Perspective of the Unique Magnetic Binary-ϵ Lupi

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The ϵ Lupi A (HD 136504) system stands out among magnetic massive binaries as the only short-period binary system in which both components have detectable magnetic fields.
