WISE DETECTION OF THE GALACTIC LOW-MASS X-RAY BINARIES

open access: yes, 2014
We report on the results from our search for the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) detection of the Galactic low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs). Among 187 binaries cataloged in Liu et al., we find 13 counterparts and 2 candidate counterparts.

Toward Fast Proton Shuttling in Acidic Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review establishes proton transfer dynamics as a descriptor governing acidic OER activity, moving beyond the kinetic constraints derived from the proton coupled electron transfer. We discuss how deprotonation governs classical mechanisms, including adsorbate evolution mechanism (AEM), lattice oxygen mechanism (LOM) and oxide path mechanism (OPM ...

Outburst Phenomena In X-Ray Binaries [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1992
Three distinctly different types of outburst phenomenon in X-ray binaries are discussed: (1) the so-called type 1 burst which is a thermonuclear flash of matter accreted on the surface of neutron stars, (2) the so-called type 2 burst which is a burst-like X-ray emission caused by a spasmodic accretion, and (3) the nova-like outburst which is triggered ...

X-ray spectroscopy of accreting black holes

open access: yes, 2014
Measuring black hole spin has become a key topic in astrophysics, and recent focus on the spin powering of jets in X-ray binaries has heightened the need for accurate measurements of spin.

Hierarchical MXene‐Derived NTP/C Nanohybrids for Cryogenic Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical MXene‐derived NaTi2(PO4)3/C nanohybrid enables efficient sodium‐ion storage down to −40°C by integrating fast ion–electron transport pathways with an ether‐based electrolyte. The system promotes dominant pseudocapacitive behavior and forms a robust inorganic‐rich SEI, collectively mitigating kinetic and interfacial limitations, thereby ...

Recent MAGIC results on Galactic binaries

open access: yes, 2022
X-ray and gamma-ray binaries are systems consisting of a compact object and normally a non-degenerate companion star. Most of these sources have been shown to emit radiation in a broad frequency range, from radio up to X-rays and sometimes gamma rays. We

Thermally Pre‐Formed Reconfigurable Resistive Random‐Access Memory Crossbar Arrays: A Dual‐Mode Platform for Robust Physically Unclonable Functions and In‐Memory Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable RRAM platform utilizing thermally pre‐formed filaments (TPFs) is developed to realize robust hardware security. By exploiting the thermodynamic stochasticity of TPFs, exceptionally reliable physically unclonable functions (PUFs) are achieved.

Optical spectroscopy of (candidate) ultracompact X-ray binaries : constraints on the composition of the donor stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present optical spectroscopy of several (candidate) ultracompact X-ray binaries (UCXBs) obtained with the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope and Gemini-North telescopes. In only one of five observed UCXB candidates did we find evidence

Artificial Intelligence‐Assisted Workflow for Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
AI‐Assisted Workflow for (Scanning) Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling. Abstract (Scanning) transmission electron microscopy ((S)TEM) has significantly advanced materials science but faces challenges in correlating precise atomic structure information with the functional properties of ...

Stellar Winds in Massive X-ray Binaries

open access: yes, 2016
Strong winds from massive stars are a topic of interest to a wide range of astrophysical fields. In High-Mass X-ray Binaries the presence of an accreting compact object on the one side allows to infer wind parameters from studies of the varying ...
