X-ray Spectra of Clusters of Galaxies [PDF]
Now that the predominantly thermal nature of the X-ray emission from clusters of galaxies is well established (see e.g. Mushotzky et al. 1978, Smith et al. 1979), it is appropriate to ask what further information can be gleaned from X-ray spectroscopic observations.

The Evolution of X-Ray Clusters of Galaxies [PDF]
▪ Abstract Considerable progress has been made over the past decade in the study of the evolutionary trends of the population of galaxy clusters in the Universe. In this review we focus on observations in the X-ray band. X-ray surveys with the ROSAT satellite, supplemented by follow-up studies with ASCA and Beppo-SAX, have allowed an assessment of ...

X-RAYS FROM CLUSTERS OF GALAXIES [PDF]
The X-ray emission from clusters of galaxies enables them to be used as good cosmological probes and as an example for massive galaxy formation. The gas mass fraction in clusters should be a universal standard which by means of Chandra observations enables Omega_m to be determined to better than 15 per cent accuracy. Future observations of its apparent

Evolution of brightest cluster galaxies in X ray clusters [PDF]
A recent paper (Burke, Collins & Mann 2000) presents the analysis of the K-band Hubble diagram of 76 brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in X-ray clusters and shows that the properties of BCGs depend on the X-ray luminosity (Lx) of their host clusters.

Space Distribution of X-Ray Clusters of Galaxies [PDF]
The Intra-Cluster Plasma constitutes an archive of the past history of all clusters and of many groups of galaxies: statistical observations of their X-ray emission will set significant constraints on the dynamical, thermal and chemical events in these cosmic structures.

X-ray analysis of filaments in galaxy clusters [PDF]
We perform a detailed X-ray study of the filaments surrounding the brightest cluster galaxies in a sample of nearby galaxy clusters using deep Chandra observations, namely the Perseus, Centaurus and Virgo clusters, and Abell 1795. We compare the X-ray properties and spectra of the filaments in all of these systems, and find that their Chandra X-ray ...

The Evolution of Structure in X‐Ray Clusters of Galaxies [PDF]
Using Chandra archival data, we quantify the evolution of cluster morphology with redshift. Clusters form and grow through mergers with other clusters and groups, and the amount of substructure in clusters in the present epoch and how quickly it evolves with redshift depend on the underlying cosmology.
