Dual color x rays from Thomson or Compton sources
We analyze the possibility of producing two-color x or γ radiation by Thomson/Compton backscattering between a high intensity laser pulse and a two-energy level electron beam, constituted by a couple of beamlets separated in time and/or energy obtained ...

Probing the X-ray Variability of X-ray Binaries [PDF]
Kilohertz quasi-periodic oscillations (kHz QPOs) has been regarded as representing the Keplerian frequency at the inner disk edge in the neutron star X-ray binaries. The so-called “parallel tracks” on the plot of the kHz QPO frequency vs. X-ray flux in neutron star X-ray binaries, on the other hand, show the correlation between the kHz QPO frequency ...

Abstract Background Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) requires an accurate patient‐specific quality assurance (PSQA) program. In clinical practice, this is usually performed using the γ‐index and the two‐dimensional gamma passing rate (2D %GP). A three‐dimensional (3D) index incorporating the patient anatomy could be more useful for the 3D dose ...

Creep Characterization of Inconel 718 Lattice Metamaterials Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion
Herein, the creep characteristics of additively manufactured Inconel 718 metamaterials are investigated. The creep behavior of metamaterials and the effects of microstructural defects are assessed, and the microstructure defects are accurately captured using Kachanov's creep damage model.

X-rays from Quiescent Low-Mass X-ray Binary Transients [PDF]
I argue that it is very unlikely that X-rays from quiescent black-hole low-mass X-ray binary transients are emitted by coronae of companion stars. I show that in a simple model in which these X-rays are emitted by an ADAF filling the inner part of an unsteady, dwarf-nova type disc, the X-ray luminosity is correlated with the orbital period.

Measurement of CT radiation beam width with a pencil ionization chamber and radiopaque mask
Abstract Purpose This study compares fan beam CT scanner radiation beam widths measured with a pencil ionization chamber‐radiopaque mask technique with commonly used film and computed radiography (CR) measurements. Methods For a given fan beam CT scanner x‐ray beam, the ionization chamber‐mask technique determines the radiation beam width by exposing a

A Variational Beam Model for Failure of Cellular and Truss‐Based Architected Materials
Herein, a versatile and efficient beam modeling framework is developed to predict the nonlinear response and failure of cellular, truss‐based, and woven architected materials. It enables the exploration of their design space and the optimization of their mechanical behavior in the nonlinear regime. A variational formulation of a beam model is presented

The Scoliosis Quandary: Are Radiation Exposures From Repeated X-Rays Harmful?
X-rays have been the gold standard for diagnosis, evaluation, and management of spinal scoliosis for decades as other assessment methods are indirect, too expensive, or not practical in practice. The average scoliosis patient will receive 10 to 25 spinal

Chandra Observations of Embedded Young Stellar Objects [PDF]
This paper reviews the Chandra deep exposure observations of star forming regions, rho-Ophiuchi, Orion Molecular Clouds 2 and 3, Sagittarius B2 and Monoceros R2. The results are; (1) class I protostars are found to exhibit higher temperature plasma than those of T Tauri stars, (2) heavily absorbed X-rays are discovered from the candidates of class 0 ...
