The Origin of X-shaped Radio Galaxies: Clues from the Z-symmetric Secondary Lobes [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 2003
Existing radio images of a few X-shaped radio galaxies reveal Z-symmetric morphologies in their weaker secondary lobes which cannot be naturally explained by either the galactic merger or radio-lobe backflow scenarios, the two dominant models for these X-shaped radio sources.

A DEEP CHANDRA OBSERVATION OF THE X-SHAPED RADIO GALAXY 4C +00.58: A CANDIDATE FOR MERGER-INDUCED REORIENTATION? [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 2010
Although rapid reorientation of a black hole spin axis (lasting less than a few Myr) has been suggested as a mechanism for the formation of wings in X-shaped radio galaxies (XRGs), to date no convincing case of reorientation has been found in any XRG. Alternative wing formation models such as the hydrodynamic backflow models are supported by observed ...

Evidence for In - Situ Acceleration of Relativistic Particles in the Wings of X-shaped Radio Galaxies

open access: goldThe Astrophysical Journal
Abstract We report evidence for in - situ acceleration/reacceleration of relativistic particles in 11 radio wings out of a total of 68 wings sufficiently well-resolved for spectral mapping, which belong to our sample of 40 X-shaped ...

X-shaped radio galaxies as observational evidence for the interaction of supermassive binary black holes and accretion disc at parsec scale [PDF]

open access: bronzeMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2004
A supermassive black hole binary may form during galaxy mergering. we investigate the interaction of the supermassive binary black holes (SMBBHs) and an accretion disk and show that the detected X-shaped structure in some FRII radio galaxies may be due to the interaction-realignment of inclined binary and accretion disk occurred within the pc scale of ...

From 100 MHz to 10 GHz: Unveiling the spectral evolution of the X-shaped radio galaxy in Abell 3670

open access: diamondAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. X-shaped radio galaxies (XRGs) are characterised by two pairs of misaligned lobes: active lobes hosting radio jets and the wings. None of the formation mechanisms proposed thus far are able to exhaustively reproduce the diverse features observed among XRGs.

Origin of the double-peaked narrow emission-lines in the optical spectra of X-shaped Radio Galaxies [PDF]

open access: green
We investigate the X-shaped radio galaxies (XRGs) with optical double-peaked narrow emission (DPNEL) as potential hosts of dual or binary supermassive black holes (SMBHs). Using a sample of 187 XRGs selected from SDSS and DESI optical spectroscopic surveys, we check the AGN nature of both emission components using the BPT diagnostics of multiple ...

Wide-Field uGMRT band-3 Imaging of the Fields Around X-Shaped radio galaxies

open access: diamondAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present wide-field upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) images of the fields around the X-shaped radio galaxies (XRGs) 4C32.25, 4C61.23, and MRC 2011-298 obtained at 400 MHz. The observations are calibrated using the extreme peeling method to account for direction-dependent effects across the field of view, as was previously applied to ...

X-shaped radio galaxy 3C 315

open access: yesBOOK OF ABSTRACTS AND CONTRIBUTED PAPERS - International Meeting on Data for Atomic and Molecular Processes in Plasmas: Advances in Standards and Modelling
AbstractHere we want to investigate X-shaped radio galaxy 3C 315, which is a FRII source, but it lies very close to the FRI/FRII borderline. We used publicly available data from Leahy’s atlas of double radio-sources and NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED) in order to investigate its flux density, as well as the spectral index distribution.
