The effect of hydrogen on the fracture toughness of friction‐stir welded API 5L X70 pipeline steels
Abstract The hydrogen embrittlement (HE) leads to severe steel degradation of mechanical properties. The hydrogen atoms diffuse into the steel and get positioned into reversible and irreversible trap sites. The pipe to transport oil and gas needs to be welded to construct long‐distance pipeline projects; thus, friction‐stir welding (FSW) has proven an ...

Characterisation of the crack tip plastic zone in fatigue via synchrotron X‐ray diffraction
Abstract This paper describes a new methodology for characterising the plastic zone ahead of a fatigue crack. This methodology is applied to a set of experimental data obtained by synchrotron X‐ray diffraction on a bainitic steel compact tension specimen.

Abstract Corrosion of iron‐containing metals under sulfate‐reducing conditions is an economically important problem. Microbial strains now known as Desulfovibrio vulgaris served as the model microbes in many of the foundational studies that developed existing models for the corrosion of iron‐containing metals under sulfate‐reducing conditions. Proposed

Phenomenological 2D and 3D Models of Ductile Fracture for Girth Weld of X80 Pipeline
Welding is the main method for oil/gas steel pipeline connection, and a large number of girth welds are a weak part of the pipeline. Under extremely complex loads, a steel pipeline undergoes significant plastic deformations and eventually leads to ...

Elimination and Control of δ Ferrite in M50NiL Bearing Steel
In this study, the effects of the annealing temperature and holding time on the δ ferrite content in M50NiL bearing steel are evaluated. The results indicate that when the temperature increases from 900°C to 1200°C, the δ ferrite content increases as a result of the increase in the Cr equivalent in the matrix, which decreases the stability of austenite
