Precipitates in Nb and Nb–V Microalloyed X80 Pipeline Steel [PDF]
AbstractPrecipitates in two X80 pipeline steels were studied by transmission electron microscopy equipped with an energy filtering system. The steels are microalloyed with niobium and niobium–vanadium (Nb–V), respectively, and produced by continuous hot rolling.

Herein, a new method is developed by combining scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy measurements with finite‐element modeling, studying the hydrogen atom diffusion and distribution in ferrite and bainite phases contained in X80 pipeline steel. The hydrogen atom concentrations in lattice and trap sites in the two phases are determined.

Strain model and experimental study of elastic viscoplastic for crack-tip zone of X80 steel pipe
The mechanical state of the process zone at the crack-tip is one of the main factors that affect crack initiation and growth in the long-term safe operation of oil and gas pipelines. Many tests showed that the stress and strain fields in the fracture-tip

A new analytic method for the buried pipeline crossing the normal fault based on the shape function. Abstract Oil and gas pipelines that go through an active normal fault often deform largely and cause serious disasters. On the basis of the beam theory of the elastic foundation and assuming a shape function for the deformed pipeline, a new analytical ...

Research on Material Selection Method and Brittle Fracture Mechanism of High‐Pressure Pipeline
Aiming at the problem of the brittle fracture of pressure pipeline, the elastic constraint structure is described by using members and engineering building structures, and the concept of elastic constraint is proposed. Through the stress field analysis of the pressure pipeline under internal pressure, it is found that the pressure pipeline under ...

The effect of hydrogen on the fracture toughness of friction‐stir welded API 5L X70 pipeline steels
Abstract The hydrogen embrittlement (HE) leads to severe steel degradation of mechanical properties. The hydrogen atoms diffuse into the steel and get positioned into reversible and irreversible trap sites. The pipe to transport oil and gas needs to be welded to construct long‐distance pipeline projects; thus, friction‐stir welding (FSW) has proven an ...

Characterisation of the crack tip plastic zone in fatigue via synchrotron X‐ray diffraction
Abstract This paper describes a new methodology for characterising the plastic zone ahead of a fatigue crack. This methodology is applied to a set of experimental data obtained by synchrotron X‐ray diffraction on a bainitic steel compact tension specimen.
