Methyl 9H-xanthene-9-carboxylate [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2008
The title compound, C(15)H(12)O(3), was obtained unintentionally as the by-product of an attempted recrystallization from methanol of propantheline bromide, an anti-muscarinic drug. The xanthone unit is folded, with a dihedral angle of 24.81 (9)° between the benzene rings.

Impact of Electronic Substitution and Planarization on the Photophysical Properties of 2‐(2′‐Hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole or 2‐(2′‐Hydroxyphenyl)‐Dimethylindole

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
We report the synthesis, structural characterization, and photophysical investigation of a series of Excited‐State Intramolecular Proton Transfer‐active HBO and HDMI derivatives. By varying heterocyclic cores, substituents, and ethynyl planarization, we establish structure–property relationships governing fluorescence behavior.

Facile and General Synthesis of Photoactivatable Xanthene Dyes [PDF]

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2011
DESPITE THE APPARENT SIMPLICITY: of the xanthene fluorophores, the preparation of caged derivatives with free carboxy groups remains a synthetic challenge. A straightforward and flexible strategy for preparing rhodamine and fluorescein derivatives was developed using reduced, “leuco” intermediates.

Fluorene‐based blue emitters: On the path to electrically pumped organic lasers

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Electrically pumped efficient operation remains unrealized, a major challenge in optoelectronics. Fluorene‐based blue‐emitting semiconductors are promising gain media, thanks to their structural tunability and favorable emission properties. This review summarizes recent advances, highlights their reliability and versatility in lasing, and outlines key ...

Donor–Acceptor Pentacene Analogues With Near‐Infrared Emission and Tunable Aromaticity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 20, 11 May 2026.
Air‐ and photostable heterocyclic pentacene analogues with donor and acceptor groups flanking a para‐quinodimethane core exhibit large dipole moments, narrow bandgaps, reversible redox behavior, and NIR‐I to NIR‐II absorption and emission with pronounced solvatochromism.

Covalently Immobilized Lignin–Xanthene Conjugates for Persistent Surface Photochemistry and Self‐Sterilizing Interfaces Under Ambient Visible Light

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Bio‐derived lignin–Eosin Y macromolecular networks are developed as visible‐light‐responsive self‐sterilizing coatings that generate reactive oxygen species without leaching. The spray‐coated photopolymerized surfaces exhibit durable antibacterial and antiviral activity under ambient light for extended periods, demonstrating a scalable and sustainable ...

Green catalytic synthesis of 14-aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes using recyclable mesoporous zirconia modified with tungstophosphoric acid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A simple and efficient procedure has been developed for the preparation of aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes by a one-pot condensation of 2-naphthol and aryl aldehydes, in the presence of mesoporous zirconia modified with tungstophosphoric acid ...

Reactivity of Oxidized Porous Silicon with Calcium Ion in Aqueous Media: Stability, pH Behavior, and Host‐Guest Strategies

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Oxidized porous silicon, composed of an elemental silicon porous skeleton coated with a silica shell, reacts with aqueous Ca2+ to generate a mixed silica–calcium silicate matrix that is remarkably efficient at trapping small molecules. With an emphasis on the engineering of controlled‐release drug delivery systems, this study identifies the factors ...

Cyclodextrin nanosponges: a potential catalyst and catalyst support for synthesis of xanthenes

open access: yes, 2022
The nanoporous framework of a cyclodextrin nanosponge was used as catalyst for accelerating the one-pot, three-component reaction of dimedone, aldehyde, and phenols for synthesis of xanthene derivatives.
