Multipurpose Transparent Nanocomposites for Gamma Spectroscopy, Pulse Shape Discrimination, Thermal Neutron Detection, Radiation Shielding, and High Refractive Index Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 28, 7 April 2026.
Materials exist that are useful for gamma scintillation, radiation shielding, neutron‐gamma pulse shape discrimination (PSD), thermal neutron detection, or high refractive index applications. While certain materials have exhibited optimal performance for each of these applications, none achieve multiple functions.

Cross Carbonyl-Olefin Metathesis (XCOM) of Unactivated Olefins

open access: yes
A method for the olefination of aryl aldehydes with unactivated alkenes via cross carbonyl-olefin metathesis (XCOM) is described. Reaction of an aldehyde substrate and a cis-1,2-disubstituted or monosubstituted olefin with the HBF4 salt of 2,3-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane results in high-yielding olefination with exclusive trans stereoselectivity.

A novel system for micron‐scale analysis of energy deposition and response to low‐dose radiation

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 53, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Background Micrometer‐scale evaluation of energy deposition is important for radiation protection and therapy as well as for advancing knowledge of responses to radiation in materials and biological systems. Due to the stochastic nature of radiation interactions, there is significant variation in energy deposition in micrometer‐sized targets ...

New beam hardened data correction and its application to artifact reduction in CT images

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 53, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Background Beam hardening is an unavoidable phenomenon in polychromatic CT systems, where lower‐energy photons are preferentially absorbed as x‐rays pass through materials such as tissue, bone, and metal. This energy‐dependent attenuation, which conflicts with the monochromatic assumption in filtered back‐projection (FBP), produces artifacts ...

Generation of 3D reference dosimetric datasets towards adoption of model‐based dose calculations for permanent implant prostate brachytherapy

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 53, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Purpose This work aims to create and validate a comprehensive set of test cases and 3D reference dosimetric datasets for model‐based dose calculation algorithms (MBDCAs) in permanent implant prostate brachytherapy. These test cases address the limits of the standard TG‐43 formalism towards improving dose evaluations in prostate cancer ...

Experimental Determination of L Shell Fluorescence Yields and Coster–Kronig Transition Probabilities of Platinum

open access: yesX-Ray Spectrometry, Volume 55, Issue 1, Page 190-201, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT An accurate database of atomic fundamental parameters (FPs) is crucial for quantitative material analysis based on x‐ray fluorescence (XRF). Given the wide range of applications and the limited reliability of existing experimental FPs for the L subshells of platinum, we determined its partial L fluorescence yields and Coster–Kronig transition ...
