Mean and variance heterogeneity loci impact kernel compositional traits in maize

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Maize (Zea mays) kernel composition is critical for food, feed, and industrial applications. Improving traits such as starch, protein, oil, fiber, and ash requires understanding their genetic basis. We conducted genome‐wide association studies (GWAS) and variance genome‐wide association studies (vGWAS) analyses using 954 inbred lines from the ...

Organic seeds: towards a transparent European market [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The use of organic seeds and propagating material is one of the fundamental principles of organic agriculture. This is reflected in current European regulations which stipulate that the use of organically produced plant reproductive material is mandatory

Under the sea: Pulsing corals in ambient flow

open access: yes, 2017
While many organisms filter feed and exchange heat or nutrients in flow, few benthic organisms also actively pulse to enhance feeding and exchange. One example is the pulsing soft coral (Heteroxenia fuscescens).

Phosphatidylinositol‐4,5‐bisphosphate 3‐kinase (PI3K) inhibitors reduce vascular inflammation in vitro and in vivo

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 24, Page 6028-6042, December 2025.
Background and Purpose Endothelial cells play central roles in increasing vascular permeability and leukocyte recruitment. Therapeutic approaches for treating endothelial cell barrier dysfunction to reduce unwanted fluid accumulation in tissues are limited.

Social representations of national identity in culturally diverse societies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The concept of identity, although quite recent in the social sciences (it was popularized by Erikson in the 1950s; see Gleason, 1983), is one of the few concepts to have been so widely studies and theorized. Psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists,

Dual spaces of geodesic currents

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 18, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Every geodesic current on a hyperbolic surface has an associated dual space. If the current is a lamination, this dual embeds isometrically into a real tree. We show that, in general, the dual space is a Gromov hyperbolic metric tree‐graded space, and express its Gromov hyperbolicity constant in terms of the geodesic current.

Special geometry on the moduli space for the two-moduli non-Fermat Calabi-Yau

open access: yes, 2017
We clarify the recently proposed method to compute a Special K\"ahler metric on a Calabi-Yau complex structures moduli space that uses the fact that the moduli space is a subspace of specific Frobenius manifold.
