Neuroprotective Properties of Xenon [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Neurobiology, 2019
Xenon is a rare noble gas that was introduced into clinical practice more than 70 years ago. Xenon's clinical properties are predicated by its ability to fit into preformed cavities of macromolecules thereby altering their biological functions. One such action targets the NMDA-subtype of the glutamate receptors thereby inhibiting its excitatory action.

Interim analysis of the long‐term efficacy and safety of azetukalner in an ongoing open‐label extension study following a phase 2b clinical trial (X‐TOLE) in adults with focal epilepsy [PDF]

open access: yesEpilepsia Open
Objective To report interim data from an ongoing, open‐label extension (OLE) of a Phase 2b study (X‐TOLE) of azetukalner in adults with focal onset seizures (FOS) receiving 1–3 antiseizure medications. Methods Eligible participants enrolled in the 7‐year

NBI-921352, a first-in-class, NaV1.6 selective, sodium channel inhibitor that prevents seizures in Scn8a gain-of-function mice, and wild-type mice and rats

open access: yeseLife, 2022
NBI-921352 (formerly XEN901) is a novel sodium channel inhibitor designed to specifically target NaV1.6 channels. Such a molecule provides a precision-medicine approach to target SCN8A-related epilepsy syndromes (SCN8A-RES), where gain-of-function (GoF ...

Pharmacological determination of the fractional block of Nav channels required to impair neuronal excitability and ex vivo seizures

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2022
Voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav) are essential for the initiation and propagation of action potentials in neurons. Of the nine human channel subtypes, Nav1.1, Nav1.2 and Nav1.6 are prominently expressed in the adult central nervous system (CNS).

Assessment of Amnesic Effect and the Depth of Hypnosis During Therapeutic Inhalation of Xenon-Oxygen Mixture

open access: yesВестник анестезиологии и реаниматологии, 2022
The current literature lacks data on the incidence of intraoperative awakening during xenon anesthesia. This could be due to amnesia preventing memories of the intraoperative awakening. The objective: to determine the concentration of xenon in the xenon ...
