Xenon Difluoride and the Nature of the Xenon-Fluorine Bond

Science, 1963
Xenon reacts with fluorine to form XeF 2 which can be isolated before it reacts with fluorine to form XeF 4 . The linear configuration of XeF 2 with the 2.00-A bond length and the vibrational force constants support the assignment of 10 electrons to the valence shell ...

Achieving Large Volumetric Gas Storage Capacity in Metal-Organic Frameworks by Kinetic Trapping: A Case Study of Xenon Loading in MFU-4.

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2018
One of the main problems of gas storage in porous materials is that many molecules of interest adsorb too weakly to be retained effectively. To enhance gas storage in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), we propose the use of kinetic trapping, i.e., a ...

Thermodynamics of Liquid Mixtures of Xenon with Alkanes:  (Xenon + Ethane) and (Xenon + Propane)

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2000
Total vapor pressures for liquid mixtures of xenon + ethane at 161.40 and 182.34 K and of xenon + propane at 161.40, 182.34, and 195.49 K have been measured. Both systems show negative deviations from Raoult's law at all temperatures. The corresponding excess molar Gibbs energies ( ) have been calculated from the vapor pressure results.

Nuclear Spin Attenuates the Anesthetic Potency of Xenon Isotopes in Mice: Implications for the Mechanisms of Anesthesia and Consciousness

Anesthesiology, 2018
What We Already Know about This TopicXenon is a noncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. The interaction of xenon with the NMDA receptor is determined by quantum-level van der Waals London forces between the electron shells of ...

Bonding of Xenon Hydrides

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2009
We have computed the structure and stability of the xenon hydrides HXeY (with Y = F, Cl, Br, I, CCH, CN, NC) using relativistic density functional theory (DFT) at ZORA-BP86/TZ2P level. All model systems HXeY studied here are bound equilibrium structures, but they are also significantly destabilized with respect to Xe and HY.

Xenon Oxyfluoride

Science, 1963
The incomplete hydrolysis of XeF 6 has been used to prepare a xenon oxyfluoride, XeOF 4 . The latter is a clear, colorless liquid, freezing at -41°C. The infrared and Raman spectra show that the XeOF 4 molecule has a fourfold symmetry axis.

Surface assisted xenon-xenon bonding?

The Journal of Physical Chemistry, 1991
An idea for forming noble gas atom-noble gas atom bonds on a surface is explored theoretically, for Xe on Pd. The notion is that interaction with the surface should withdraw electrons from the top of the forming Xe 5p band, thus allowing Xe-Xe bonding, truly compressed structures.

The Compressibility of Gaseous Xenon. I. An Equation of State for Xenon and the Weight of a Liter of Xenon

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1951
The compressibility of xenon containing 0.14 mole percent of krypton has been measured from 16.65° (the critical temperature) to 300°C and over the density range 1 to 10 mole per liter. The constants of the Beattie-Bridgeman equation of state for the sample used and for pure xenon have been determined from these measurements.

First Xenon-Xenon Collisions in the LHC

2018
In 2017, the CERN accelerator complex once again demonstrated its flexibility by producing beams of a new ion species, xenon, that were successfully injected into LHC. On 12 October, collisions of fully stripped xenon nuclei were recorded for the first time in the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy per colliding nucleon pair of 5.44 TeV.
