Optically active doped xerogel
Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1992Abstract Using the sol-gel process, organic dye molecules have been trapped and individually encaged in a solid xerogel matrix. These doping molecules were aligned by a focussed femtosecond laser pulse, thus creating a local birefringence. The molecule alignment is permanent. An optical memory matrix is thus experimentally achieved.
