Reassessing Radioactive Iodine Use After Thyroidectomy in Low‐Risk Differentiated Thyroid Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 5, September 2026.
Routine radioactive iodine (RAI) after thyroidectomy in low‐risk differentiated thyroid cancer shows no clear benefit in reducing recurrence or improving survival. These findings support a selective, risk‐based approach, avoiding unnecessary treatment and potential adverse effects.

Intraoperative Indocyanine Green Fluorescence Enables Primary Tumor Localization and Treatment De‐Escalation in SCCUP: A Case Report

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 48, Issue 9, Page E94-E99, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Unknown primary cancer in the head and neck presents a difficult surgical treatment dilemma. Patients with squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary (SCCUP) typically present with an enlarging neck mass found on biopsy but with no indication of primary site on diagnostic exams such as flexible laryngoscopy, CT, MRI, and/or PET/CT ...

Non‐Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Oropharynx: Primary Surgery or (Chemo)radiotherapy?

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 48, Issue 9, Page 2541-2556, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background In patients with locally advanced, non‐metastatic oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC), surgery‐based and nonsurgical treatment approaches have not been adequately compared in randomized Phase III clinical trials. Current clinical guidelines recommend various surgical and nonsurgical strategies across disease stages for ...

Radiotherapy‐Induced Otitis Media With Effusion in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: A Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 9, Page 3718-3731, September 2026.
This meta‐analysis of eight studies comprising 582 NPC patients provides the first quantitative synthesis of radiotherapy‐induced otitis media with effusion (OME), demonstrating a significant overall risk difference of 0.18 (95% CI: −0.06 to 0.42, p < 0.0001) in OME naive ears.
