Estrutura populacional do Camarão Sete-Barbas Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Heller, 1862), na Foz do Rio Itajaí-Açú, Itajaí, SC, Brasil [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 1999
Xiphopenaeus kroyeri is the most exploited shrimp specie along Center-South coast of Santa Catarina State, Brazil, by artisanal fishery. In the period from March/1996 to February/1997, 3965 shrimps were collected (1843 males and 2122 females) sampled by ...

A multigene and morphological analysis expands the diversity of the seabod shrimp Xiphopenaeus Smith, 1869 (Decapoda: Penaeidae), with descriptions of two new species [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
After being stable for nearly a century, the taxonomic history of the genus Xiphopenaeus has been marked by many changes in the last three decades. The taxonomic status of the Atlantic species has a low resolution, and many species are still undefned and

Genetic structure of the sea-bob shrimp (Xiphopenaeus kroyeri Heller, 1862; Decapoda, Penaeidae) along the Brazilian southeastern coast [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2005
The sea-bob shrimp, Xiphopenaeus kroyeri, is one of the most important economic marine resources along the entire Brazilian coast. Nevertheless, despite its economic importance, no studies have examined the population genetics of this species.

Influence of water quality on the macroinvertebrate community in a tropical estuary (Buenaventura Bay). [PDF]

open access: yesIntegr Environ Assess Manag, 2022
Abstract The anthropogenic discharges of inorganic nutrients impact water quality, affecting the macroinvertebrate assemblage and food safety. The main objective of this study was to examine the seawater quality and macroinvertebrate dynamics in muddy habitats of Buenaventura Bay, Colombian Pacific.

Considering the influence of land use/land cover on estuarine biotic richness with Bayesian hierarchical models. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Appl, 2022
Abstract The composition of land use/land cover (LULC) in coastal watersheds has many implications for estuarine system ecological function. Land use/land cover can influence allochthonous inputs and can enhance or degrade the physical characteristics of estuaries, which in turn affects estuaries' ability to support local biota.

Wild animals used as food medicine in Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yesEvid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2013
The connection between eating and healing is common in traditional folk medical systems, and the multiple possibilities resulting from the combination of biodiversity and culture confer a wealth and complexity in terms of knowledge of the flora and fauna as to their potential as food medicine.

Understanding what is what in marine shrimp fisheries

open access: yesOcean and Coastal Research, 2021
Shrimps are the main fishery resource in marine waters off Sergipe (northeastern Brazil), where they are landed in three categories: ‘espigão’, ‘escolha’ and ‘pistola’.

True insights or ticking boxes? Rapid assessment of rights‐based management in artisanal fisheries

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, Volume 30, Issue 4, Page 338-352, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Rights‐based fisheries management (RBFM) seeks to create market incentives to reduce competition, avoid overexploitation, and increase economic efficiency. Particularly for artisanal fisheries, however, assumptions of RBFM may not be met and its use needs to be carefully considered. This study applies an existing tool (SEASALT) to evaluate the

Bycatch of Asteroidea from shrimp trawl fishery in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean - Brazil

open access: yesPapéis Avulsos de Zoologia, 2022
Shrimp trawling is considered a significant negative impact on the marine ecosystem, especially on the benthic community. Sea stars (Echinodermata: Asteroidea) are one of the most affected groups by unintentional catches.

Trophic interactions and metal transfer in marine ecosystems driven by the Peruvian scallop Argopecten purpuratus aquaculture

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 53, Issue 2, Page 452-474, April 2022., 2022
Abstract This study investigates the trophic interactions and As and Cd transfer along seven marine ecosystems in Peru. Five of these ecosystems are driven by aquaculture of the Peruvian scallop Argopecten purpuratus. A southward increased gradient of δ15N was observed among the three examined regions along the Peruvian coast.
