Mexico se trouve sur un plateau, entouré de montagnes avec un réseau de distribution des eaux très complexe. Quand les Espagnols sont arrivés, l'aqueduc de Chapultepec, l'Albarradôn de Nezahualcoyotl et un système de chaussées constituaient le principal système d'approvisionnement en eau et de protection contre les inondations.

The concentration of a range of endocrine disruptors: 17-β-estradiol, estrone, 17-α-ethinylestradiol, bisphenol-A, pentachlorophenol, triclosan, and butylbenzylphthalate, was analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry in the Wetland zone of Xochimilco, a periurban area of Mexico City, during an annual cycle.

En 1576, y en un caso judicial que se llevó ante la Real Audiencia en la Ciudad de México, se incluyeron dos documentos pictográficos. Éstos se guardaron en los archivos pero en un momento dado fueron sacados de allí y a partir de entonces debieron separarse.
