Secondary xylem development in Arabidopsis: a model for wood formation

Physiologia Plantarum, 2002
Our understanding of the molecular controls regulating the identity of the vascular cambium and the development of secondary xylem and phloem have not yet benefited much from the use of Arabidopsis as a genetic system. Under appropriate growth conditions Arabidopsis undergoes extensive secondary growth in the hypocotyl, with the development of both a ...

PtoNAC90 is a positive regulator for secondary xylem development in Populus

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
Secondary growth is regulated by numerous transcription factors under multi-level transcriptional control; however, only a few are considered as key regulators of secondary cell walls biosynthesis in Populus. This study identified PtoNAC90 as a transcription factor crucial for xylem development in Populus.

Secondary Cell Wall Deposition in Developing Secondary Xylem of Poplar

Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, 2010
Abstract Although poplar is widely used for genomic and biotechnological manipulations of wood, the cellular basis of wood development in poplar has not been accurately documented at an ultrastructural level. Developing secondary xylem cells from hybrid poplar (Populus deltoides x P.

Xylem pathways in rose plants in relation to basal shoot development

Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1993
SUMMARY Application of dyes to roots or shoots is an easy way to visualize xylem pathways in plants. It was shown that upward transport was sectorial straight. A main root appeared to contribute to the transport to several basal shoots. Application of dyes to shoots showed that each basal shoot is supplied by only a part of the root xylem.

Dihydroconiferyl alcohol in developing xylem of Pinus contorta

Phytochemistry, 1986
Abstract Dihydroconiferyl alcohol was identified by GC/MS as an endogenous constituent of developing xylem in Pinus contorta ssp. latifolia. Its role in regulating wood formation in P. contorta is discussed.

Seasonal development of secondary xylem in Pinus Strobus L.

Wood Science and Technology, 1969
Secondary xylem, or wood, is the tissue that conducts water and minerals in the tree; thus it performs physiologically one of the most important functions for the tree. In addition secondary xylem is the tissue that primarily determines the suitability of a tree for various economic uses.

THE VASCULAR CAMBIUM AND XYLEM DEVELOPMENT IN HIBISCUS LASIOCARPUS

American Journal of Botany, 1963
Cumbie, B. G. (U. Missouri, Columbia.) The vascular cambium and xylem development in Hibiscus lasiocarpus. Amer. Jour. Bot. 50(9): 944–951. Illus. 1963.—Circumferential growth of the vascular cambium, as determined primarily by an analysis of the secondary xylem, in Hibiscus lasiocarpus, an herbaceous dicotyledon, occurred through both radial and ...

Development of xylem-based water filters

2016
Diarrheal diseases caused due to microbial contamination are one of the leading causes of fatalities amongst children. Despite the availability of numerous commercial products for water filtration and treatment, there continues to be a need for technological solutions that can make safe drinking water affordable and accessible.
