THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SECONDARY WALL OF THE XYLEM IN ACER PSEUDOPLATANUS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Cell Biology, 1964
The development of the spirally thickened xylem element from a cambium initial of sycamore Acer pseudoplatanus has been traced by means of electron microscopy. The narrow elongated cambial initial undergoes considerable expansion in all dimensions. The cytoplasm at this stage is distributed in a thin skin between the cell wall and a large vacuole.

CkREV regulates xylem vessel development in Caragana korshinskii in response to drought

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Drought stress poses severe threat to the development and even the survival status of plants. Plants utilize various methods responding to drought, among which the forming of more well-developed xylem in leaf vein in woody plants deserves our attention ...

Cell Wall Invertase 4 Governs Sucrose–Hexose Homeostasis in the Apoplast to Regulate Wood Development in Poplar

open access: yesPlants
In perennial trees, wood development is a carbon-demanding process, pivotal for secondary cell wall (SCW) formation and xylem development. Sugars, functioning both as carbon substrates and signaling molecules, orchestrate cambial proliferation and xylem ...

Regulation of xylem cell fate

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2014
The vascular system is deliberately placed throughout the plant body for transporting water, nutrients, and signaling molecules. During vascular development, xylem, phloem, and procambial/cambial cells are differentiated in a spatiotemporally organized ...

Dissection of Functional Modules of AT-HOOK MOTIF NUCLEAR LOCALIZED PROTEIN 4 in the Development of the Root Xylem

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Xylem development in the Arabidopsis root apical meristem requires a complex cross talk between plant hormone signaling and transcriptional factors (TFs).

Changes of cytosine methylation in pecan tissues of different stages by quantitative methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2020
Cytosine methylation plays an important role in plant development by regulating gene expressions. However, few studies have investigated methylation changes during the tissue differentiation and development of perennial plants.

Grain filling leads to backflow of surplus water from the maize grain to the cob and plant via the xylem

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Rapid dehydration of maize grain is one of the main characteristics of cultivar selection for mechanical grain harvest; however, the dominant driving forces and mechanisms of grain dehydration before physiological maturity remain disputable and obscure ...

Exogenous applications of brassinosteroids promote secondary xylem differentiation in Eucalyptus grandis [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Brassinosteroids (BRs) play many pivotal roles in plant growth and development, especially in cell elongation and vascular development. Although its biosynthetic and signal transduction pathway have been well characterized in model plants, their ...

A vacuolar hexose transport is required for xylem development in the inflorescence stem

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2021
Abstract In Angiosperms, the development of the vascular system is controlled by a complex network of transcription factors. However, how nutrient availability in the vascular cells affects their development remains to be addressed.

Importance of sugar homeostasis within xylem parenchyma cells to sustain xylem development

open access: yes, 2019
The Arabidopsis floral stem xylem tissue is formed by xylary parenchyma cells and dead cells including xylary fibres and xylary vessels. Especially, these last two cells functions request the presence of an extra-thickened secondary cell wall whose synthesis requires an important amount of carbohydrate skeletons.
