Physicochemical properties of cookies enriched with xylooligosaccharides
Food Science and Technology International, 2015The growing commercial importance of xylooligosaccharides is based on their beneficial health properties, particularly their ability to stimulate the growth and activity of intestinal bacteria such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species. Xylooligosaccharides are less sweet, acid, and heat stable, with low recommended levels of intake compared to

Enzymatic Production of Xylooligosaccharides from Cotton Stalks
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007Xylooligosaccharide (XO) production was performed from xylan, which was obtained by alkali extraction from cotton stalk, a major agricultural waste in Turkey. Enzymatic hydrolysis was selected to prevent byproduct formation such as xylose and furfural.

Membrane-Assisted Processing of Xylooligosaccharide-Containing Liquors
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2006Liquors from rice husk autohydrolyis, containing xylooligosaccharides, other saccharides, and nonsaccharide compounds, were subjected to two selected processing schemes to increase the proportion of substituted xylooligosaccharides in refined liquors. Nanofiltration through a ceramic membrane with a molecular mass cutoff of 1000 Da allowed simultaneous

Influence of Chain Length on the Colonic Fermentation of Xylooligosaccharides
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2023Xylooligosaccharides (XOS) have been employed as prebiotics containing oligomers of varying sizes or molecular ratios. XOS with a low degree of polymerization (DP) has been demonstrated to have high prebiotic potential. However, there is limited information regarding the specific chain length of XOS required to elicit distinct responses in the gut ...

Spray-dried xylooligosaccharides carried by gum Arabic
Industrial Crops and Products, 2019Abstract Prebiotic xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are derived from xylan-rich agricultural residues and have important applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic fields. The high hygroscopicity and low glass transition temperature (Tg) of XOS could result in operating problems and deterioration of product quality during the drying process and

The hydrolysis of xylan and xylooligosaccharides by ruminal enzymes
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1957Abstract Xylan is hydrolyzed to a mixture of xylooligosaccharides by enzymes in the rumen of the bovine. A random hydrolysis of the xylosidic bonds of xylan, xylotetraose, xylotriose, and xylobiose is effected. Several bacterial cultures obtained from the rumen contents were shown to produce xylan-hydrolyzing enzymes.

Xylooligosaccharides production from wheat middlings bioprocessed with Bacillus subtilis
Food Research International, 2019Prebiotic compounds are substrates selectively metabolized by beneficial gut microbiota causing a health-promoting effect. Despite some prebiotic carbohydrates have been largely studied, xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are important prebiotics derived from arabinoxylans, which are polysaccharides found in cereals.

Xylooligosaccharides mediated gut microbiome modulation: prebiotics to postbiotics
Critical Reviews in BiotechnologyAn increasing trend toward harnessing nutraceuticals as food supplements rather than pharmaceuticals as curative and preventive agents against various ailments has been observed. Owing to their health benefits, prebiotics have received notable attention from the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Maltodextrin: A consummate carrier for spray-drying of xylooligosaccharides
Food Research International, 2018The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of spray-drying on the powder qualities and microstructures of prebiotic xylooligosaccharides (XOS). The relationships between glass transition temperature (Tg) and XOS retention, moisture content, drying yield as well as specific surface area under different inlet air temperatures and maltodextrin ...

Xylooligosaccharide Utilization by the Ruminal Anaerobic Bacterium Selenomonas ruminantium
Current Microbiology, 1998Fermentation of xylooligosaccharides by 11 strains of Selenomonas ruminantium was examined. Xylooligosaccharides were prepared by the partial hydrolysis of oat spelt xylan in dilute phosphoric acid (50 mM, 121 degrees C, 15 min) and were added to a complex, yeast extract-Trypticase-containing medium. Strains of S.
