Numerical analysis of the V-Y shaped advancement flap [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Engineering & Physics, 2015
The V-Y advancement flap is a usual technique for the closure of skin defects. A triangular flap is incised adjacent to a skin defect of rectangular shape. As the flap is advanced to close the initial defect, two smaller defects in the shape of a parallelogram are formed with respect to a reflection symmetry.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Y-shaped magnonic demultiplexer using induced transparency resonances

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
We give an analytical demonstration of the possibility to realize a simple magnonic demultiplexer based on induced transparency resonances. The demultiplexer consists on an Y-shaped waveguide with an input line and two output lines.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Viscoelastic Flow in Y-Shaped Channel

open access: yesSen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (Journal of the Textile Machinery Society of Japan), 1984
A two-dimensional steady flow of viscoelastic and Newtonian liquids is investigated in Y-shaped channel. In the present paper a Maxwell model in which the viscosity term is due to Carreau is used for the viscoelastic liquid. It is the purpose of the present work to investigate the effects of elasticity and non-Newtonian viscosity on flow pattern ...

Effects of Gd, Y Content on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Mg-Gd-Y-Nd-Zr Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2018
The effects of Gd, Y content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Gd-Y-Nd-Zr alloy were investigated using hardness measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
