Unraveling the Evolutionary History of Snow Sheep (Ovis nivicola): Genome‐Wide Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Analysis Reveals Genetic Diversity and Clarifies Taxonomy

This study chronicles all described subspecies of snow sheep (Ovis nivicola) since 1829, reviewing taxonomic assessments by key systematists. Using genome‐wide SNP genotyping on 337 samples from 15 populations, we validate and refine subspecies classifications, revealing eight genetic clusters and proposing a new subspecies (O. n. ernsti).
