Young, Massive Star Clusters in the Antennae

2008
While massive star clusters have been detected in almost every galaxy with appreciable star formation, they are most prevalent in interacting and merging galaxies. As many as 95% of these clusters will ultimately be disrupted, often in the first 10 Myr, but those clusters that do survive may be the progenitors of globular clusters.

Young massive star clusters in M51

A search for young massive star clusters (YMCs) in the nearby face-on spiral galaxy M51 (NGC 5194) has been carried out using UBV CCD images from the prime focus camera on the Lick 3 meter Shane telescope. The YMC population is found to be quite rich with a specific U-band luminosity T_L(U) = 1.4, consistent with the high current star formation rate of

Massive Young Clusters Near the Galactic Center

2017
In this chapter, I review studies of the three massive young clusters at the Galactic Center—Arches, Quintuplet, and the Young Nuclear Cluster. These clusters reside in an extreme environment and are ideal laboratories for studying how such environments influence the star and cluster formation process and subsequent cluster evolution.

Binary Fraction in Young Massive Star Clusters

2017
Binaries have strong impact on the evolution of stellar populations, they will accelerate the mass segregation process in a star cluster, form blue straggler stars. Some primordial scenario aim to explain the MSPs in globular clusters, have suggested massive binaries as the polluter of intra-cluster gas, and some evolutionary scenarios also invoke ...
