Linking soil enzymes and microbial community dynamics with organic carbon fluctuations for sustaining the soil health

open access: yesScientific Reports
In the mountainous regions, where irrigation water is scarce and temperatures are less than ideal, we aimed to explore the combined effects of mulching and organic manure on organic carbon fluctuations, microbial populations and enzymatic activities in ...

Getting wise about lost Ys [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Genetics, 2019
A new study has identified genetic determinants of mosaic loss of chromosome Y (LOY) in leukocytes that are also associated with increased risk of various non-haematological cancers, suggesting LOY in blood is a biomarker of genome instability in other tissues.

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

Rootstock mediated modulation of growth, flowering and nutrient content in Apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) scion cultivars in high density planting system in north-west Himalayas

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
This research highlights the complex interplay between growth, flowering fruit yield, nutrient dynamics, physiological responses and overall tree health in determining the performance of different apple scion-rootstock combinations in high-density ...

Ophthalmomyiasis Caused by Oestrus ovis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2019
Ophthalmomyiasis externa refers to the involvement of external surface of eyes by the larvae of dipterous flies. We here describe case of external ophthalmomyiasis wherein larvae (five in number) were removed by using forceps under local anaesthesia and ...

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...
