Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Experimental validation of solid oxide fuel cell polarization modeling: An LSM-YSZ/YSZ/Ni-YSZ case study

open access: yesElectrochimica Acta, 2020
Abstract Polarization modeling based on the measured I-V curves is a useful tool for analyzing SOFC performance and diagnosing performance limitations. Using the polarization model, the overpotential of a cell is usually separated into different polarization contributions, including area specific ohmic polarization, activation polarization, and ...

Nano‐Scale Characterization of Impurities Segregation in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cathodic polarization induces impurity segregation in Ni, forming an amorphous Na─Al─Si─O amorphous phase at grain boundaries. Under ultralow oxygen partial pressure, multiple elements dissolve, migrate, and reoxidize within the metal. A patterned model system provides direct nanoscale evidence, clarifying the mechanism of polarization‐driven impurity ...

Performance degradation and recovery of YSZ membrane under sulphuric acid thermal decomposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The effect of sulphur dioxide (SO2) present in the cathode feed stream on the performance of a 8 mole% yttria-stabilized zirconia/platinum (8YSZ/Pt) cell was studied. SO2 concentration of 30% in oxygen (5ml/min) and helium (30ml/min) was exposed to
