NASA thermal barrier coatings: Summary and update [PDF]
A durable, two-layer, plasma-sprayed coating consisting of a ceramic layer over a metallic layer was developed that has the potential of insulating hot engine parts and thereby reducing metal temperatures and coolant flow requirements and/or permitting ...

Field‐assisted processing of Ce–zirconolite ceramics for nuclear applications
Field‐assisted processing of zirconolite ceramics resulted in significant reduction in time and energy compared to conventional processing. Abstract Conventional, flash, and hybrid sintering (unique combination of conventional and microwave heating) experiments were performed on 10% Ce‐doped zirconolite samples and the results were compared.

Initial particle neck growth is a prerequisite for enabling flash sintering at lower furnace temperatures in low‐yttria‐doped tetragonal zirconia ceramics, which are specifically engineered for high toughness. Poor particle contacts promote mass transport through localized electric fields and currents, accelerating grain growth even in the absence of a

The effect of aging on the translucency of contemporary zirconia generations: in-vitro study
Background The translucency of different zirconia generations at each time point after thermocycling aging is still lacking. Methods Four zirconia materials were used with a total of 60 samples produced from monolithic third generation (5Y) 5 mol% yttria-
